There are a few very nice Nygmobblepot wedding pictures out there, but I think this one has to be my favorite--it’s so action-packed and, really, the most “them”, because can you honestly imagine these two having a wedding that doesn’t involve some form of explosions?

Funny story about this one, actually. I saw it on Pinterest once when I was clicking around, but then I clicked on something else and lost track of it, and I couldn’t find it in my history or anything because Pinterest is weird like that. I tried googling “Nygmobblepot wedding”, but sadly, it doesn’t come up (although some other very nice pictures came up which I’ll also have to share--or I guess reblog; this isn’t facebook--some time). So I spent the next couple of weeks clicking desperately through Nygmobblepot art on Pinterest trying to find this one again so I could save it. I never did find it that way. Eventually, I looked at the Nygmobblepot art I had already saved to my laptop to see if I had anything in a similar style, and as luck would have it, I did have some Spicy Watson art in my folder already, and I managed to recognize the art style and follow the watermark back here. It’s a really nice feeling to find such lovely art of your ship, but it’s even more amazing when you find it, lose it, spend weeks looking for it, and find it again! :)

Even without the cathedral, this woman has a gorgeous voice, but the effect of the cathedral is really quite lovely.

Kind of gives you chills .

So I decided to give myself a sharpie tattoo tonight :) I’ve been vaguely imagining having a “God is Love” (1 John 4:8) tattoo for quite a long time, but I’m afraid of both needles and decisions and thus have not done so as yet.

But I’ve been seeing these pictures of Gerard Way with sharpie tattoos and I was just like “there is no reason I should not give myself a sharpie tattoo right now” and so... I did.

See beneath the cut for step by step pictures and general rambling :)

I put it in the spot where I would get a real tattoo if I ever get around to getting one; I have a big weird scar about halfway up the outside of my left calf and I figure if I were to get a proper tattoo, that’s kind of an ideal spot for a tattoo anyways and I might as well cover my scar with one.

image

As with any good scar, there’s a long story to it, but (gross-out warning, mild medical violence warning) basically I had a spider bite that got infected and it swelled up into this big nasty boil-ish, welt-ish thing that lasted for an uncomfortably long time. When I went to the doctor with it, they pretty much just stabbed it twice to get it to drain and it left me with this. It’s hard to get it to show up very well but it’s basically two deep divots in a patch of pale, off-texture skin, a bit bigger around than a quarter.

image

So I knelt on my bed with my leg at an awkward angle, whipped out my treasured 30 pack of rainbow sharpies (minus like 3, because sharpies like to run away), and went to work. It was kind of a weird angle to draw at not only because of how I had to bend my knee but also because everything I was drawing was sideways, but the heart turned out fairly nicely, if a bit lopsided.

image

I didn’t make the heart quite big enough to fit “God is Love” inside of it so I wound up with the love bit underneath. I’m fairly pleased with how it looks, although you can definitely tell from the “e” that I was working sideways.

image

I liked it well enough, but I wanted more color, and so I decided to add a butterfly wing to the left--or perhaps a flower. I have a tendency to draw those rather similarly so it’s basically both. One flower lead to another, then another, plus a couple of vines; I have progress pictures with each individual piece I added, but to prevent this post from going on for too long, I’ll just jump back to the final design.

Also, side note, my knee was stiff as all heck after sitting like that for all the time I was drawing, and I had to limp around the house a bit to get my leg to straighten back out. In hindsight I would advise taking more breaks during the drawing process when sitting with one’s leg at such a weird angle.

image

The main picture at the top is from that stage as well, but then I went and googled “sharpie tattoo” because I remembered something about there being a way to make them last longer. I found this, which said to cover it in baby powder and spray it with hairspray. I don’t really use hair spray regularly, but I was pretty sure I had some around somewhere; the first stuff I found actually turned out to be a spray can of hair mousse, though, so I just patted it around on top of the baby powder. I didn’t quite get the whole thing covered because I was worried about smudging it if I rubbed it around.

image

I was fairly certain I had some actual hairspray somewhere; eventually it occured to me to look in my old dance bag, because the last time I used hair spray was probably my 9th grade dance recital. I was correct, and upon locating said dance bag, I found both hairspray and an abundance of nostalgia. I reapplied baby powder and sprayed it on. Having not been used in nearly a decade, the hairspray came out in a confused trickle rather than a spray, and the whole area became very wet as I tried to pour out enough spray to cover the design in its entirety. The ink started to bleed and, while pretty, I was worried that rather than preserving my sharpie tattoo I was going to rinse it off prematurely in a flood of aged hairspray.

image

I quickly dabbed at the flow with a bit of toilet paper, and in doing so accidentally made a rather lovely watercolor on the paper.

image

So, this is where things are at now. The baby powder did leave quite a bit of texture on my leg. I imagine it will rinse off, but I think for tonight I’ll let things ‘set’ before I try and rinse it. Perhaps it would’ve been better if I’d left the initial design without putting any of this on it, but hopefully this will help it last longer. It’s just fun to have something bright, colorful, and meaningful on my leg.

I’ve been really digging Killjoy aesthetics lately and I love the whole culture of being bright and colorful and unique that they have, and as I’ve been conceptualizing my Killjoy OC (cosplay to come, if I ever get around to it), I’ve found myself thinking about how I’d want to ideally design... well, myself, and so I guess this sharpie tattoo was really born from that.

Along those same lines, I’ve also been revisiting the idea of dyeing my hair. It’s something I’ve contemplated since middle school but never done, but now I really think I would like to. Again I’m at least partly inspired by Gerard Way, both in the sense of the bold hair colors of the Killjoy universe and from seeing how many great hair styles and colors Gerard’s had over the years. I’m not fond of the idea of cutting my hair, but I like the thought of mixing it up by dyeing it.

The wrench in my plans right now, though, is the way that everything is just on hold at the moment. Specifically, I’ve been in rehearsals for a play, but with this whole pandemic business, our rehearsals are suspended and our play is postponed for an unknown period of time. The play is the Crucible, and unfortunately, neon red violet hair would not fly in puritan Salem. My plan initially was to dye my hair as soon as the play was over in early April, but now, well... who knows how long it’ll be until the show happens and I’m in the clear to mess with my hair. So, stay tuned for that I guess. I don’t know if I’ll wait to do my Killjoy cosplay until I’m able to dye my hair; I would like to have both this sharpie tattoo and dyed hair at the time of said cosplay, but I’m not certain whether those time frames we’ll overlap. We’ll see.

Anyways, if anyone’s still reading this, thanks for sticking with me through my rambling! I hope you have enjoyed this episode of Violet’s adventures in sharpie tattoos.

I Would Like To Present: Pirate Killjoycore! I’m Pretty Sure I’m Not The First Person To Suggest

I would like to present: Pirate Killjoycore! I’m pretty sure I’m not the first person to suggest pirates in the Danger Days ‘verse*–after all, we know that east of Battery City, the desert is full of runaways fighting BLI, but there’s all that ocean to the west unaccounted for. Why wouldn’t some ‘joys run off to sea instead of the desert, steal some boats, and carry on the fight on the other front?

So, I wanted to try and capture how the Killjoy vibe might play out on the pirate side of things. I figure some ‘joys steal big yachts and graffiti them up and manage to run them off of the same mystical fuel source cars in the Zones run on. Maybe others who can’t get the magic gas thing to work for them or who don't want to rely on fuel patchwork together sails from scraps of fabric, graffiti those, and cobble together some rigging--and maybe some were lucky enough to grab up actual Tall Ships for that authentic Pirate Vibe.

If you’re a pirate ‘joy, of course, your boat will also be your crew’s home, so I figure they’re pretty cozy and colorful inside, too (and probably pretty cluttered, but in a homey way). As far as Pirate Killjoy fashion, I imagine it’s as bright, chaotic, and colorful as its counterpart Zones fashion, except naturally more pirate-inspired, with long swishy coats and big hats.

I have a lot more Pirate Killjoycore pictures saved that didn’t make it into this moodboard, too, so let me know if there’s something specific you’d like to see more of! I can always make posts with individual pictures, too; my standard moodboard formatting wasn’t working this time since I needed my pictures to be different widths and heights for this one, so I had to make it elsewhere, hence why it’s all one image, but if you want to see one or more pictures closer, let me know.

Seriously though feel free to ask me about Pirate Killjoys and related aesthetics! I am very slow about answering asks but I do have many thoughts about this :)

Sources and more below the cut.

*I thought for sure at one point I’d seen a headcanon post about pirates in the DDverse, but I haven’t been able to find anything in the tags. If you have one, feel free to tag me in it or otherwise send it my way!

Sources: x  x  x  /  x  x  x  /  x  x  x

Disclaimer, I don’t necessarily go through all of my sources, I just grab the pictures and links from image searches; that said, I did happen to click around a bit and the image on the flickr account the bottom left picture came from is right next to a picture of a dead person so I felt like I should give fair warning in case you decide to look through that flickr at all. It appears to be some part of a funeral procession in India but the dead person is clearly visible so, fair warning.

Also I did watch the video on La Preciosa (top left, the boat with the smiley face) and that was pretty cool (and had definite Killjoy vibes). :)

Also technically I found the first graffitied tall ship here but I did a reverse image search to find my sources and the artist’s page has more information about the painting. Now that I look at the original post though, you can actually see the details of the painting better there I think.

I actually did call it, but only because I recognized him from his more recent role as dashing international art thief Pierre Despereaux in Psych, which is a pretty solid intermediate phase between Westley and Mayor Jerkface.

I Actually Did Call It, But Only Because I Recognized Him From His More Recent Role As Dashing International

I was just as surprised as you to learn that Despereaux was Westley, as I recall, back when I was first googling him. Like I think I thought he looked familiar but I couldn’t place him. (Then I ended up writing more than half of the Psych Wiki page on Despereaux but that’s another story.)

But it was hilarious because my mom, who has also seen Psych and Princess Bride, totally thought I was wrong. I looked at the mayor and I was like “hey, that’s Despereaux” and she was like “Nah, I sort of see the resemblance but that isn’t him”. Then I looked it up and it was; it’s bloody Cary Elwes. I’m very proud of my facial recognition skills, which are frequently lacking but in this case were spot on.

Although, to be fair, I also kept getting the mayor and the newspaper guy mixed up, to the point where I briefly thought that the mayor also ran the newspaper, and when I learned they were separate I had no idea which one was Heather’s dad, so I guess that’s 1 win and 1 loss for my facial recognition skills after all.

(Also Pierre Despereaux is the #1 best side character in Psych and if you love Westley, I highly recommend you watch Despereaux’s episodes on Psych. The first one is called Extradition: British Columbia and it’s great and you should watch it...)

Merry Christmas from the Christmas Wilf :)

Also remember the other day when I said Leela was on my top 10 companions list? Wilf is definitely on the list as well. (Actually, who am I kidding, there’s no way I could actually pin it down to a top 10 list. But Wilf is still one of my favorite companions.)

halloween spooky halloween aesthetic halloween decorations halloween lights even in the tags i ramble Jack-O-Lanterns I should still reblog things to this blog sorry I've gotten so in the habit of using my chaos blague that I neglect this one sometimes I guess I'm starting to use it more exclusively for original posts or posts where I'm making significant contributions to the post but I still want to put some of the nicer reblogs and things on it like I used to I guess the metaphor I used before is that this is like my formal parlor blog and chaos blague is my messy living room blog but anyways I have to decorate my formal parlor for Halloween! but yeah if you wish I was on here more then do check out my sideblog blagueofchaos because I've been using that a lot lately I just need to remember not to neglect my alfhildr blog as well ugh there are so many posts I had planned and drafted-- I'll get to them eventually! or some of them at least in any case. this has been: updates on the status of my blog in the tags of unrelated posts we now return to the actual tags 'tis spooky season graveyards ravens out quothing a very consistent orange color pallate well dark orange and black and cool subtle flickering effects very nice moodboard overall appropriate for spooky season I don't even remember how I tag things on this blog. I just know I always use a lot of tags on it between the rambling and the attempts to effectively organize things I think I use my ramble tags more than any other tag on this blog probably

It's also the inspiration for the title of one of my all-time favorite youtube miniseries, The Guards Themselves!

It's a fun little "the superheroes are being used by the rich to further their agendas and the anarchist supervillains have a point actually, though they're not exactly the most skilled supers ever tbh" type adventure with lots of fun memorable characters. It was basically the creator's film school senior project and I think it's pretty well done as low-budget youtube movies go.

But yeah, in this case, the guards are variously the superheroes, the private security force employed by Meyer (the primary rich guy in question), and the anarchists, and there's plenty of exploration of the guarding of the guards themselves!

Also Kyle (the main creator)'s best friend Ian actually teaches Latin--he plays Big Fist in this--and I'm pretty sure he had a hand in the title.

(General warning for some pretty gratuitous gun violence, but not too much in the way of blood)

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes ?

"Who will guard the guards themselves?" / "Who will watch the watchmen ?"

Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes ?

It was found in Juvenal's Satires but it may have been added by someone else

Nowadays, it's sually used in relation to tyrannic governments or corrupted law enforcers but it was originally about the moral behavior of wives and eunuchs.

"Who watches the Watchmen ?" is a phrase used several times in Watchmen

In Terry Pratchett's Watch series (Discworld universe), it's super important and is an acab phrase of sorts used by Commander Vimes, the cop main character to keep himself in check in a pre-acab world when these books were published

*Note : the Discworld propaganda isn't mine. I had actually cut parts of my original list of phrases before letting you make picks and this one hadn't made the cut. However, one of you had asked about this specific phrase and I elected to add it to the form

If you want to submit a new form to vote for it, go for it. Same thing if you've changed your mind about other phrases, but please try to remember which ones you have already voted for

alfhildr-the-word-weaver - The Lande of Violet Mists
The Lande of Violet Mists

Welcome, dear traveller, to our fantastical lande shrouded in swirling violet mists. Here we study how stories shape our lives, how words weave wonders before our eyes. Here we are enamoured of love and the connections betwixt people. Here we seek daring adventures in our wild lande, delving into the unknown at every turn. But mostly, here you'll find my obsession with any number of things, like Doctor Who, the Vampire Diaries, or any number of others from the ever-shifting tide of obsessions through which I cycle. My more-used sideblog is blagueofchaos if you ever wish I posted more :) She/her, 28
