Dark Matter
I am in the parking lot Breathing hard My breath traced by floodlight
The night is hooded I have lost the stars I have lost my car keys
I sit on the tar Lost in space

Parking Lot, 2018
Photograph Title: Striptease club, Tokyo, 1951. Photographer: Werner Bischof
Painted faces and smooth skin Lounging among dressing room clutter Channeling palace concubines For the average man
Emerging from feudalism
Tokyo girls All bouncing breasts and Swaying hips Take the stage.

Thin strips of flayed flesh String the bow.
Time is always conducting us in and out of measure.
The ghost of my own making holds fast to darkness
Though, I let go so long ago
Learning to play for no one with fingers once broken
Beautiful terrible music unleashed into the world for me for me
for you.

Catch me like there is no net My dear I am counting on you
I am the first of us to Let go
To believe With outstretched Hands
In the moment One reaches For love
Timing is everything A net will not Stop the fall
Hearts still Break.

Eleionomae
Down by the water heavy with silt and frogs the quick green eyes follow you
The mud’s daughter Lingering among the reeds The winsome whispers keep you near
Old as the bayou gator Hungry too Reaching out for you
A finger dipped Framing the lovely face in ripples Moments before you break the water.

I saw you in the train window
I saw her too
You saw nothing your eyes were closed her fingers tangled in your hair
The train pulled free
The sway and screech receding down the line
I stood stolid on the platform forgotten coffee in my hand
Looking at the hole that had been your train
Wondering how long you have been gone.

Straight Narrow Laced Up Tight
Bound by Respectability, domesticity, Mild virtuous Wife, mother, nothing more
Reflect, reflect Only wholesome Womanly airs
Do only proper Womanly things
Calling cards Genteel teas Birthing children Serving your Husband Father Brother
Reflect, reflect Only what is desired By others
But when you look in The mirror You see Your eternity and begin To scream

Purgatory
Cloaked in the weight of human shortcomings The regrets you carry with you Are not the currency of the ferry man
Death does not release you from your debts Shuffle along with the masses Through the vast grey nothing You have miles and miles to go.
