Well these turned out pretty cool:
😙
My campus had a telescope that could safely display the eclipse happening in real-time. It was wild!
Someone there also brought a camera to take pictures too. I did my best to take photos from the display.
who out here watching the eclipse? anybody got pics? we're overcast as hell so i can't see a thing :(
I was also there.
It was just so amazing and refreshing to see especially when I’m used to seeing primarily not-Jewish things being celebrated and shown in public all the time.
This was such a full scale celebration, more so as in jewbilation (ba-dum tsss!)
Anyway, this will be forever one of the greatest moments ever!
Today, my school's Chabad held a Jewish joy/pride festival right in the middle of campus. They set up a bunch of booths with Jewish activities. There was a booth for braiding challah, making bracelets with our Hebrew names, various Jewish pride stencils to spray paint Chabad shirts. There were tables to pick up shabbat candle kits or wrap teffilin. Jewish music played loudly (but without disturbing nearby classes of course) and people were dancing along to songs like Am Yisrael Chai, I'm a Jew and I'm Proud, Very Narrow Bridge, and other blatantly Jewish songs.
Most of my friends and I couldn't stop smiling. This spot in campus where just last year people were shouting for the destruction of our homeland and our families and us, after nearly a year of being shamed for our Jewish pride and being told we shouldn't be proud, and so much time spent on a campus filled with hate, we were bringing joy back to campus.
I feel like most of my latest posts have been fairly negative. It's hard not to write my heavy heart onto the screen, especially after the murder of Hersh and the other hostages, and just everything going on overall. But this festival reminded me of how much power Jewish joy holds.
If you're feeling upset about the war, I'm with you. Few days go by without tears shed or pain felt. But remember that being Jewish is infinitely more than antisemitism and loss. Being Jewish is joy, and it is pride. We are our ancestors' wildest dreams, we are all miracles, and we cannot forget this for a single moment.
Be joyful in a world filled with sorrow, and bring light with you wherever you go.
Ever since late middle school I've been weary on telling people that I'm Jewish. There weren't much others like me in my city other than my family and two other people in my high school.
With all the blatant anti-semitism throughout the years (especially now), I'm just tired, angry, low on hopes.
I guess it's become ingrained within my people that they expect they will be hurt and prosecuted from outsiders and others that have no idea what they are talking about. I'm angry that it's still happening, that even now many Goyim (non-Jews) choose to be ignorant and turn their nose away, simply because it’s not happening to them so “it’s not relevant” to them or some other BS excuse of theirs!!
Jewish culture is being terrified to tell people that you're jewish, even those who claim to be supportive, because of how rampet anti-semetism is
(Note that I'm actually half jewish but that I've been really in my jewish identity lately for obvious reasons)
.
No words can describe how much I want this reboot to be real!!
My fancast for if there's ever a Fiddler On The Roof remake (I don't know if there will be one but I want to make a fancast anyway)
Ok so for Tevye, Jack Black. Is this controversial? Maybe. But he's Jewish and he fits and he can sing.
Ok so for Motel, I want to cast Logan Lerman. He looks soft, he can be awkward if needed, and I just want an excuse to cast him in another Jewish role.
Golde, Tevye's wife, should be Robin Weigert. Do I need to justify my choice? I don't think I do. It's a good choice.
Yente could be Rhea Perlman, she just fits the vibes, idk.
As just the fiddler that symbolically appears in the movie, Timothee Chalamet. He can dance and he isn't actually seen much in the movie so why not. I wouldn't show his face though, just his silhouette as they do for a majority of the original movie anyway. (He can also voice over Miracle of Miracles for Logan Lerman if need be.)
Perchik can be Milo Manheim because you know what, I need that guy in some Jewish roles and why not.
Chava can be played by Odeya Rush, Odeya could be good in that role I think.
Joey King can be Hodel. I have no justification for this other than running out of young Jewish actresses and also she is a good actress when she needs to be.
Swell Ariel Or can be Tzeitel. She was great in Beauty Queen Of Jerusalem and I think that she would fit the role of Tzeitel well.
Tanner Buchanan can be Fyedka because he looks like he could be him, I don't actually know much about this actor sorry.
