is it just me or does this lowkey parallel the first episode where shinichi cant stop talking about mystery and ran asks him to talk about literally anything else LMAO
Their version of a date
As a Kuraneon shipper and a shipper of non-canon ships, I am totally at peace that they have a low to zero possibility of being canon. Shipping is just a fun activity for me and to create content, have that creative relaxation for shits and giggles.
The exception for this is CoAi from Detective Conan. It was my first ship, shipping that pairing is so painful because you can really see their chemistry and all the things they had gone through together in canon. But because the writer prefers childhood love stories (it seems), it can never be canon. And this year, there's a lot of CoAi content, especially this year's 2023 movie and even that Uniqlo shirt. We all know it's just money but ahhhh seeing this beautiful ship have its spotlight again. This is that one pairing I really wished for it to be canon. Like, it could have been one of the best couples in shonen manga. A story about two people going through the same adversity, solving crimes together, and getting to know each other. I still remember how they progressed from the episode they had first met. Conan grew to trust her and saw a softer side of her, and Ai slowly tried to live her life again. They had a lot of moments together that was really romantic.
(In my opinion only), this pairing is much more interesting than the one we got. Yes, Ran is a very nice and sweet girl, I really like her as a person. But I think Gosho's mistake is having Ai (who is vital in the BO plot), take the secondary role and one-sided love. It would make more sense if the main love interest had a vital role in the plot, but instead, we got the opposite for this series.
Another factor is that since there are so many childhood love stories in the series, it makes the main pairing less unique because it's like a copy-paste of many other pairings in the series. Lastly, Ai is more interesting and layered character-wise, even more than Shinichi I believe. We see her grow in the series and her background story is really sad, yet she tries to overcome that. She has flaws that are directly related to her childhood, unlike Ran who seems to lack any flaws. Sometimes it's better to have a flawed character than someone perfect. It encourages character growth and this is why I always find myself being drawn to her, and wanting the best ending for her.
This is just my opinion only. It's okay if others don't share the same perspective, but these are just my thoughts.
šāØ A Voice from Gaza: Fighting for Hope ā¤ļøāš©¹
Hi, my name is Mosab , and Iām from Gaza. Life here has been harder than I could ever imagine, but today Iām sharing my story with hope in my heart, because your kindness has already given us so much strength.
This journey hasnāt been easy. The war has taken 25 family members from usā25 beautiful souls we loved deeply. Their laughter, their presence, their love⦠all of it is gone, leaving behind memories that are both precious and painful. Every day, I carry the weight of their loss, but I also carry their spirit, which gives me the strength to keep going.
Our Journey So Far
When I first reached out, I couldnāt have imagined weād make it this far. Your support has been a light in these difficult times, and we are so deeply grateful for every single contribution.
But the road ahead is still challenging. Every day, weāre reminded of how much weāve lost and how much we still need to rebuild.
Hereās what life in Gaza looks like for my family right now:
š Safety: The uncertainty of tomorrow weighs heavily on us.
š¢ Loss: The absence of the 25 family members weāve lost is a pain we carry every moment.
š Dreams on Hold: The future feels so far away when survival takes all our strength.
How You Can Help Us Cross the Finish Line Even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference:
$5 may seem small, but for us, itās a little relief, a moment of comfort, and a reminder that kindness still exists. ā¤ļø
Canāt donate? Reblog this post to help us reach someone who can. Every share matters more than you know.
Why Your Support Matters Your kindness isnāt just about helping us meet our goalāitās about reminding us that weāre not alone in this fight. Itās about hope. Itās about survival. And itās about giving my family a chance to rebuild our lives, even in the face of unimaginable loss.
Thank you for helping us get this far. Your generosity and compassion have already brought us closer to a better tomorrow, and for that, Iām endlessly grateful.
With all my love and gratitude,
Mosab and Family ā¤ļø
these in particular are my favorite panels. shows their relationship so good; healthy too. First pic is literally what i imagine their dynamic as a canon couple. he always asks for her opinion in this comic and i love it. so refreshing from the Rift where they were both assholes to each other. Even when he disagreed with taking away Liling's bending, he didnt outright refuse her or say no. He said he'd think about it. Also refreshing from the show, where Aang was so set in his beliefs that he didnt consider solutions that differed from his values.
taang in imbalance part 5 cuz i love them omg theyre so pretty
taang in the comics part 4
ladies and gentlemen, the ONLY good comic: Imbalance.
everyone is so in character i LOVE IT except Aang. But in the good way. I genuinely got whiplash when reading this cuz?? is that rlly Aang?? omg hes so good. THIS is what aang stans think show-Aang is but hes rlly not. I love Aang's personality here. Confident, calm Avatar, still with a silly side, doesn't get angry irrationally, still heard Toph out when she suggested taking away his bending even tho I just KNOW show/gly Aang would've gotten angry/preachy with her.
Also this is a good example of what I mean where Kataang would be so good if they were just handled well! I LOVE them in this comic. Theyre so good and sweet together, espcially when they visited that island. She was supportive, but not in a way that made it feel like Aang was throwing a tantrum and she was shouldering itācuz thats honestly what it felt like in the show. No. Here, it genuinely feels like one person talking about their problems and the other being supportive of them. A natural, equal relationship. Also they didn't call each other sweetie. Not even once. I love that for them. They managed to be rlly sweet together as a couple without resorting to cringe cliche moments like in GLY's.
However, while I did think Kataang was cute here, im still a Taang truther LMAO every panel with them together i went 'thats him and his wife fr'. Look how good they are together omg, I love their canonical height difference. And Toph is so pretty here, especially in her pajamas. Imbalance is what I think Aang and Toph would be canonically had they been in a relationship in the show. He doesn't get angry here, he's stable and grounded and not preachy. He hears out her opinion even when he clearly doesn't agree (as he was stunned when she suggested taking away his bending) and didn't even refuse it. He didn't say no. He just said he'd think about it. Even to Katara, he didn't outright say that he disagreed with Toph, he js asked for her counsel. But ik damn well the Aang from the show would've gotten mad and preached his monk values to her like he did with Katara in TSR. I also like the way he always cares for her throughout the comic, asking for her opinion, asking where she isāeven when he didn't take on her suggestion of taking away Liling's bending, he still asked her if she was okay with it (with him doing a different plan) which I thought was rlly sweet. Just not in-character for show-Aang. No, this Aang is way better fr. I personally think this is how he would be had he been with Toph instead. His emotions are more stable, he's more confident and realized, set on his beliefs but not to the point where it'd blind him to other people's opinionsāsuch traits align with my hc of how Toph would've affected him. Grounding and stabilizing him through her tough but understanding nature.
Unfortunate, bc Imbalance is how good Kataang could've been. But no, imo they're more like GLY. Which is why I think their marriage wasn't all that good in the future. Imbalance Kataang would never neglect Bumi and Kya. You know who would, tho? GLY Kataang.
In North and South, she literally told Malina that Malina had a change of heart bc she fell in love with Katara's Dad and that she'd revert back once she fell out of love like?? Girl?? What kind of thinking is that? Is it not possible that Malina came to her own realizations about the southerners on her OWN?? cuz yk shes a human being with her own thoughts and feelings? She's implying that Malina'sāand essentially women in general, bc the way Katara phrased it didnt seem like singling out Malina specificallyābeliefs are that weak and easily swayed based on whether she's in love or not. Which is crazy to me? Its obvious Malina had her own genuine realizations about the southerners that impacted her deeplyāyes, maybe Hakoda inspired her, but her beliefs aren't going to magically revert if she stops being with Hakoda. It lowkey says smth about her and Aang's relationship cuz wdym? are your beliefs rlly that reliant on ur man??
Oh kataang the potential you couldve had :((
taang in the comics part 2
Last panel is literally THE taang panel fr. Also, the third pic is literally the only in-character moment of them. Even if Toph were canonically against the past so strongly (which she isnt the show,, she just wants her parents to love and recognize her properly. never does she want to run away from her past, she faces it head-on, like she does with everything else), THAT is how she would've done it. She would've at least explained herself like that, communicating about what she feels, instead of going straight to cruel behavior and rude insults. Is this rlly the same girl who felt so guilty about Appa, even though it wasn't her fault and she had done her best?
All in all, I HATE the Rift. I read it just for the smallest taang crumbs of seeing them side-by-side, even if it meant enduring the never-ending 'sweetie' of KataangāNot that im entirely against Kataang, its just in these comics theyre soš like omg there is a time and place for that and its not here!!
Butchered my girl Katara so bad. Like theyre so...overly affectionate, kissing every few panels, calling each other 'sweetie' (im sorry thats so cringe), and its every soft romance wattpad I've ever read. Katara in the GLY comics is like those memes where the girl is so uwu crybaby-ified. I was a few pages into the Promise when I screamed WHY IS SHE JUST STANDING THERE. And when she finally did fight, she had to ruin the moment with "Don't set my boyfriend on fire!" girl...just fight they dont need to know Aang's ur bf omg, as if the sweetie wasn't obvious enough.
But honestly,, the worrying part for me is that the in-character Kataang IS the GLY comics imo. If Katara and Aang from the show were in a relationship, it's the GLY comics. Katara suppressing her feelings (like in the Promise with those fangirls) and apologizing to HIM even when he's the one in the wrong. Aang being irrationally angry and going into the Avatar State in emotional ways (like in the Promise,, again. Can you tell I HATE the promise). Katara having to calm him down with 'sweetie this isn't youš„ŗpls calm down sweetieš„ŗfor meš„ŗš„ŗ' the way she has to calm him down in the show (ofc not the sweetie part,, but she still has to, as if it's her responsibility). Her being damselled for the sake of Aang's development (like, again, in the Promise. When Zuko gripped her wrist a lil too tight to stop her from attacking his people, you know damn well Katara wouldve smacked the shit out of him with her own waterbending. But no, instead we got 'ow zuko ur hurting me!!' and Aang going into the Avatar State for it. No wonder he died early; the State shaves years off ur life, and he kept spamming it irrationally. And again in the Rift, when she was with Toph in the cave under the rubble. I feel like Katara was put there with Toph just so Aang would actually care. When he heard from Sokka that "Toph and the others are down there," he only asked about Katara, and visited them twice to, yet again, talk to Katara. And that's why he had sent for Toph's students to get them out. And! When they did get out, Katara ran straight to start making out with him instead of healing her friend, who passed out from saving them. Like hello?? There is a time and place for that. The Katara I know would've healed Toph first. No one, except her own students and dad, showed gratitude or worry for Toph for literally saving their lives. Another Appa situation I see.)
Another problem with Kataang I have in the comics is also in the Promise. Aang was about to ban mixed families bc he felt offended that a few well-meaning fangirls tried to participate in his culture, yelled at them, and ran off. He only changed his mind after he realized it would mean he and Katara couldn't be togetherābasically realized it would affect him too. Also rubbed me the wrong way that a girl who's such an activist looked at a family facing injustice and didn't feel defensive on their behalf (which she would be in the showāif she weren't with Aang), but instead, imagined herself having a family with her boyfriend. Its not too bad ig but it just rubbed me the wrong way when I read it. Like, why is THAT what you thought of when u saw them girlš
Unfortunately, I believe that's how they would be canonically in a relationship, as their personalities in the GLY comics are regrettably more on par with the show (I can imagine Katara's character becoming like that post-show...unfortunately. Aang's influence.)
taang in the comics part 1 they look so good together even tho theyre arguing
tbh i have rlly mixed feelings about the comics. ESPECIALLY about the rift. Like on one hand, I enjoy having extra content about the characters. On the other hand, the whole comic was so bad. Like that is NOT my toph wtf. She has never been disrespectful about Aang's cultureāto my knowledge, whenever Aang meditates, Toph is the only one who's been quiet. She also isn't against spirituality?? She literally spent her old years in the swamp, a place that is spiritual in itself. And she is actually quite knowledgeable about the philosophical aspect of bending, such as talking about its not only a power, but a way of life. Also, she has NEVER been this mean?? Aang is literally her first friend, she would never be cruel like this. She's snarky and pushes him to stand his ground, but she's never been like this. Also her very first dialogue in the Rift is an immediate red flag.
"Fire Nation alongside Earth Kingdom...You really think those people will get along well enough to govern this place, Twinkletoes?"
Like?? Okay maybe its possible to have doubts, but her expression and the way this is phrased implies she clearly doesn't believe it and is lowkey disdainful of it. Is this the same Toph who advocated to have Zuko join their team?? The same Toph who befriended Iroh, had tea with him in the middle of the war, and was friendly and welcoming to him in Ba Sing Se even after knowing he's part of the Fire Nation Royal Family??? that is NOT my girl omg
Aang...Imma be honest, the comics with this artstyle are the ones he's actually in-character for. That's why he's kinda insufferable in these im ngl. Imbalance Aang was SOOOO good, but he was clearly way better in that comic compared to the show. Show Aang is the same Aang as the GLY comics,, which is probably why I don't like him there LMAO
wait spy family zutara/taang is actually genius?? how did i not think abt it b4 omg, katara as yor, zuko as loid, aang as anya and toph as damian is so fitting
Hello! It's always great to meet another Taang shipper!
What do you love most about Taang?
I hope you have a great day!!!
Hey!!
Oh, it's so nice to see that Taang is still loved by so many people (and it's always really nice to see active blogs about them ^^)
What do I love most about Taang?
I love their dynamics. They bounce off each other almost harmoniously, because they are opposites in so many aspects of their lives: beliefs and morals, elements, backgrounds and childhoods. They clash and struggle and are far from perfect, yet, no matter how big the storm, how complex the disagreement - they always reconcile, they always listen to one another, they always learn and grow and strive to become better people. They respect one another so much to work around their oppositions and thus balance and understand one another in ways that no other member of the ATLA cast can replicate (with Aang and Toph).
And though they are natural opposites, they still have so much in common if you delve deeper. Aang and Toph are the youngest in the Gaang - and share the same love for teasing and joking; they share a very deep connection with the the original benders of their respective elements (Toph with the Badgermoles and Aang with Appa); they both runaway from their homes at a young age because of paramount expectations; both are masters of their bending - even inventing a new form/bending style at 12 years-old (air scooter and metalbending).
Aang represented all Toph needed in her life - freedom, loyalty, companionship and a friend. He saw her beyond her perceived weakness and never underestimated her capabilities as an earthbender and his potential master. He taught her to trust and confide, understood her when no other person did and soften the hard edges that she'd constructed to protect herself from her suffocating reality. In a sense, Aang was a breath of fresh air in her life.
Toph, on the other hand, represented all Aang needed - stability, confidence, strength. Aang, being the Avatar, had been coddled and protected by almost everyone - Katara, Sokka, admirers, etc. He wasn't Aang, he was a symbol - a symbol of hope and peace. But Toph didn't care about his divine-like power, didn't care that everyone around him praised the very ground he stepped on - in Toph's perspective, Aang was Aang. A kid just like her and she treated him as equals; never afraid of pushing him to further his growth; she taught him to stand his ground, face his enemies head on, become a stronger, confident bender. She was the ground that anchored him to the mortal world and made him feel normal.
It's also poetic, in the finale - Toph is in the air whilst Aang is mostly on Earth. And, may I add, that at the end, whilst Zuko and Katara ultimately did teach him plenty so he could face the Firelord, Aang's preferred bending style, that was not his own, was Earthbending. The element that had once stumped him, frustrated him; the hardest element to master, his opposite... and now, he used it to protect himself, to shield and fight. He used every technique Toph taught him - rock armor, crushing earth, even seismic sense... Toph ultimately saved Aang during the Finale.
I can go on and on about them, but I'm in the midst of writing a dissertation on Toph and Aang's development and potential in ATLA - so I'll save most of my thoughts for that whenever I get to completing it.
And... let's be honest. Aang and Toph together just look so beautiful. They would be the IT COUPLE in ATLA - their canonical height difference should be reason enough to stan Taang. Avatar and The World's Greatest Earthbender... come on now! And it would just fit right - Aang as an adult would have to travel the world and Toph would gladly travel alongside him since she doesn't have a "home" (Aang is her home); and, as adults they could built Republic City from the ground up whilst also balancing raising a family... UGH! IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD!!!
I'm going to start with the third entry of the 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Comic Series because Toph's characterization isn't too off-putting in 'The Promise' (though it still had many infuriating panels that I'll get to in the future) and she isn't present in 'The Search'. So, we'll start off with 'The Rift' - the first and only Toph-centric comic, despite being a fan favorite character and one of the main characters of the show.
And, the very first panel with our favorite Earthbender is a slap to the face to Toph's character arc as well as her personality:
Toph Beifong is questioning whether or not Earth Kingdom citizens can united alongside Fire Nation citizens.
This is coming from the first member of the Gaang that warmed up to Zuko when he presents himself in the Western Air Temple (and willingly went to speak to him, despite everyone's disapproval).
This is coming from the same person who willingly sat down for a cup of tea with Uncle Iroh. And even after discovering he was a member of the Fire Nation Royal Family, she still thought and spoke highly of his character (Aang does state that Toph mentions that Iroh gives great tea and advice).
This is coming from the same person who travelled across the Fire Nation, observed how their is good in evil; fought beside the Fire Nation Prince to stop the war and even reassured him that HE WAS GOOD when he doubted himself during the Ember Island Play!
Obviously, Toph may have her doubts and concerns given they're discussing the government of a Fire Nation Colony - territory that once pertained to the Earth Kingdom. And yes, hostility and dissatisfaction may be a legitimate concern. However, it's the way she phrases her sentence that irks me. It almost seems as though Toph is doubting the possibility of genuine unanimity forging between the two different Nations. And it's really off-putting because Toph had never ONCE, during her screen time on ATLA, questioned the possibility of blossoming friendships with people of the Fire Nation.
It's also a lesson Aang teaches her in 'The Avatar and The Firelord':
Toph: It's like these people are born bad
Aang: No, that's wrong. I don't think that was the point of what Roku showed me at all (...) Roku was just as much Fire Nation as Sozin was, right? If anything, their story proves anyone's capable of great good and great evil.
And now, we commence my substantial hatred for the portrayal of Toph's manners:
Yes, in the original series Toph does have a few scenes (that I can recall, three) where she does something that is generally un-ladylike and bad-mannered. But, I cannot understand what it is with Bryke and their obsession of depicting Toph being rude and gross in almost every other scene.
In 'The Promise' we had a few other scenes and 'The Rift', not fifteen pages in, and we get these two scenes almost back-to-back. And, it no longer correlates to Toph's want to disconnect from her pompous upbringing. This is how Bryke choose to write their "tomboy" coded characters, and it's disrespectful.
We don't see any other female character do these types of actions. Not Katara, not Suki, not Ty Lee, not Mai, not Azula. Toph is exclusively the only character that acts this way. And it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth once you come to terms that Byrke associate "tomboy female characters" with unhygienic, gross and rude behavior. You can write Toph desiring to abandon her rigorous upbringing and be less traditionally feminine without portraying her this way. It's just perpetuating a very nasty stereotype that's already been constructed with this type of media.
And don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with depicting female characters doing things that are considered unladylike (example: burping, picking their teeth, etc.). But, how come no other female character acts this way? We never see none of the other traditionally feminine characters, such as Katara or Mai, act this way. Like I said, it's feeding into a very weird and harmful stereotype.
Oh boy.
So, we enter the central conflict between Aang and Toph.
To contextualize this, whilst Aang is explaining the Air Nomad Traditions to the air acolytes, he ends up saying "That's just how it's done." and it triggers Toph's past childhood trauma growing up secluded and misunderstood by emotionally neglectful parents. I actually really enjoy that we're exploring Toph's past and her own traumatic experiences; it makes her a more compelling, relatable and human character and gives her personality a lot more depth.
However, it's what comes next that infuriates me to my core (and the reason why I wanted to write this monstrosity of an analysis). Toph becomes arrogant, rude, insensitive and disrespectful to Aang and to his culture.
It's just odd we never explore this trauma beyond this. The trauma that Toph has, while interesting and a great set-up for some internal character work, it's utilized solely to progress the conflict (and once it's resolved, Toph's inner struggles are abandoned). And it's odd that this traumatic event in her childhood is the setup for her sudden and spontaneous love for the future and her avoidance of her past.
It's even odder when you remember that in the original series, Toph never wanted to flee her past. She loved her parents and felt remorse for leaving them. She just wanted them to understand that she was a capable fighter and see her beyond her blindness.
For you to understand my disappointment in this particular characterization, we first have to analyze Toph during ATLA. Throughout the two seasons where she is present, Toph had never once disrespected Aang's culture or his spirituality. On the contrary, she seemed amazed with the Western Air Temple the moment she sensed it's architecture beneath the cliffs: "Wow ... it's amazing!"
Aang reassured her that friendships carry on throughout lifetimes (and it comforts her);
When he's meditating, she's the only one remaining quiet:
Season 3, Episode 6: The Avatar and The Fire Lord
Katara: Do they have bathrooms in the Spirit World?
Sokka: As a matter of fact, they do not.
She's always showed nothing but respect for Aang, his culture and his duties as the Avatar and last airbender, yet, now, for some reason she is characterized in such an unflattering and antagonistic light. And it's crazy to me that Toph is suddenly someone who resents the past and is all about the future... since when has this been one of her defining character traits?
It just... keeps going... And it's so sad to see. This just makes Toph so unlikeable and this just isn't the same Toph we got to see in the animated series. And it what world would Toph Beifong choose a random dude she just met over her friends, especially her FIRST FRIEND (Aang)?
AND NOW SHE IS LYING TO PROTECT THIS RANDO BECAUSE HE ADMIRES HER?
In what world would Toph do this? And don't tell me this is because Toph is enamored with Satoru. Toph, canonically had a crush on Sokka, yet she never did anything stupid nor disrespectful for Sokka; she never compromised her morals or beliefs to protect Sokka.
And I cannot fathom Toph being this unbothered by the pollution. True, she was never a big environmentalist in the main series; however, I would like to believe that Toph would advocate for the protection of her element, especially given she is so in tune with nature: Badgermoles taught her how to bend, she sees through earth, her element is centered around nature... I just can't rationalize Toph being this indifferent to the lack of care for the environment.
Sigh... Here's a little montage of Aang's ability to maintain inner peace:
Season Two, Episode Eight 'The Chase': Aang lashing out on Toph despite Toph being the only one to justify how Azula, Ty Lee and Mai kept finding them.
Season Two, Episode Eleven 'The Desert': Yelling at Toph and blaming her for Appa's kidnapping, despite Toph being unable to see nor protect Appa, because she was protecting her friends.
Season Three, Episode One 'The Awakening': Aang being so frustrated that the world thinks he's dead that he flies away at sea, during a storm.
Season Three, Episode Seventeen 'The Ember Island Players': Literally get's so infuriated with an unreal depiction of his relationship with Katara that he forcibly kisses her, because immaturely possessive and quote: 'Overreacting? If I hadn't blocked my chakra, I'd probably be in the Avatar State right now!?
'The Promise' - Part One: After Katara is held by Zuko and he enters the Avatar State.
Yes, Aang sure is in tune with his inner peace.
It's also hilarious that they really think Toph is the one provoking the earthquakes when she's the best earthbender alive and is more in tune with her bending then any other bender there. I mean, I get it we have to shove the "everyone loves and defends Aang" but not even Sokka came to Toph's defense? Katara?
Another thing that really rubs me the wrong way is that Toph was literally pushed into Aang's life because she "waits and listens" - yet, here, Toph is anything but patient. She's explosive and reactive. During ATLA, whenever she fights, she always has a moment afterwards where she listens to the other person. The best examples are with Katara in 'The Runaway'. She's actually considerably patient if you actually analyze her character throughout the series and isn't as hotheaded as she's portrayed here.
Not everything in this first part is horrendous. I do enjoy that we get confirmation (that unlike a certain canon couple) Aang and Toph are able to have their squabbles and then talk things out to understand one another's perspective.
We also get to see them work together despite being at odds. And, just like in the animated series, they work in really great harmony and comprehend the other without saying many words. I really enjoy that we get to see them put their differences and disagreements aside and work like a unite when it's called for. That is something that I really enjoy about Taang and their dynamic.
We also get a lot of cute panels with Toph and Aang - and man they are a really good looking couple. In a later analysis, I'll get more into depth on their relationship in this comic (and her relationship with her friends), but for this initial part it wasn't too badly butchered.
And's that's it for the first part of this analysis.
How would you think either of the two (Alfred and Ivan) would think about proposing/marriage in your au? Ik they do eventually but I would love to hear about how it might happen!
I think they're both into it! One more than the other tho lmao
ofc Alfred as an Omega was highly disdainful of the idea and actively rejected it, but only because its something expected of him. Take this excerpt:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Alfred wrinkled his nose. Marriage as a duty. What a ridiculous notion.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā He saw the Omegas here in this village. The married ones. The ones who walked around the village claiming they were fulfilled because they had made a family. A good show, indeedābut through the windows of their cottages, behind drawn curtains, he could see their misery, their helplessness at the hands of their husbands. Fear flashed in their eyes at the prospect of returning home. Controlled. Locked away. No freedom or autonomy or any function other than to satisfy their husbands' carnal urges and pump out their babies.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Alfred saw it as a warning. And he didn't need to be told twice.
This is what Alfred thinks about marriage, mostly due to his upbringing of seeing the miserable people of Krasny. But he's not against it entirely. He just doesn't want it to be forced upon him. Like all things, he wants it at his own pace, at his own time. But he's not immune to dreamingāand even he wants his own fairytale romance one day. He just never has time to truly think about it or consider it. For most of the story its the last thing on his mind. Ofc, after getting feelings for Ivan, this mindset changed, and he very much wants to get married to him.
As for Ivan, in the story it's also the last thing on his mind. Of course, he's a royal with a lot on his plateāthat is, until he started liking Alfred. Now, he very much wants to do so; there's even a scene where he goes through the lawbook trying to find a loophole so he can marry him. You would think with all his trauma and history that he would fear marriage, as he saw how his parents' turned out. But Ivan isn't like that. Rather than a cautionary tale, he sees it as another way to prove he isn't like his father, like a manual. For Ivan its like: get married, have children, and do it better than he did.
You said youāre rewriting your fic but I would love to hear some of the ideas you had that didnāt make it into the rewrite if you had any honestly. I love ur fic sm itās like one of my favorite aus
aw thank u for the nice words!! and omg there's sm that didn't make it into the final cut it feels impossible to talk about them all. Half of them I scrapped because I plan to reuse them in the sequel, which I'm already drafting the outline of
There were many scrapped ideas. Most were about Alfred and Ivan's interactions. I was supposed to make them kiss earlier on in the story but scrapped it in favor of a more slow-burn pace.
Also, the world originally wasn't steampunk, but rather a more HOTD-like world. As in there was no technology, just medieval settings, but there were dragons and magic. Alfred was initially supposed to be a witch, but a very clumsy one. Dragons play an essential part of life, highly integrated into civilization, kinda like HTTYD. This came into use in the plot when Ivan's dragon escaped and landed in Alfred's village, and the villagers were too scared to approach a dragon of the royal family, but Alfred (not knowing it was a royal dragon cuz he's dumb like that) rushed forward to help. However his magic is faulty and he ended up making a big boom, but dw the dragon was unharmed. Instead of simply healing the dragon, Alfred accidentally seeped his magic into its scales. He didn't think much of it tho and continued to properly heal the dragon until it finally was able to fly away. But when it returned to the palace, the dragon no longer responded to Ivan because of Alfred's magic inside it, so they sent guards to hunt down the witch who marked a royal dragon, and that's how Alfred was found and dragged to the palace.
This was scrapped for a more high-stakes and much, much darker plot, as the original is so whimsy and fairy-tale like. I plan to reuse that kind of world-building though just not for Spades HAHAHA
There were many others, but most of them are in the bin to be reused, so I won't be spoiling them hehe
I was wondering where can I read your cardverse fanfic? Iāve been scrolling through your art and I love it so much, theyre so cute š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗ
you can find it on ao3, its called Torn Between Love and Duty, and my username is the same as here in tumblr. But fair warning that I'm rewriting it in real time, so it may not make sense while you're reading itš So far I've only updated until Chapter 6 fhsjdh
Your blog is so lovely ššš i esp love your cardverse and the little twins aww! š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
aww thank you!! i do indeed love the twins as well, and i will take this as the perfect time to yap about them.
Alexei:
He is the bigger twin, and the reason why Alfred had to get an emergency c-section. He's always been big for his age, inheriting Ivan's size.
From Ivan, he got: hair color, skin color, size (height and build), quiet, stoic, cold, resilient, responsible, shy and awkward. Loves the cold, hates the heat.
From Alfred, he got: eyes, nose, easily embarrassed and flustered (he was a shy crybaby when he was a toddler), prudish, hardworking in the good and honest way, strong morals, always takes the high road, never says no when someone needs help.
He is the oldest (by a few minutes lol) and takes the role very seriously. As a mama's boy, he takes it upon himself to help Alfred. Even when he was a toddler, he'd waddle after Alfred in the supermarkets, carrying the basket and being very proud of himself for helping his mom.
He respects his father so much to the point that they're awkward around each other. Ivan and Alexei are a bit distant because Alexei doesn't want to seem weak or emotional in front of his strong father. He takes pressure silently and resiliently.
He looks after his siblings, and among his brothers, he is the one who does most of the chores around the house. Partly because Viktor shrugs his work off to him often and Alexei can't say no. He also never asks his parents for anything because he feels bad, so he just uses his things until they can't be used. His laptop is hanging by a thread. When his airpods broke he soldered the wires and fixed it himself. His phone case is chipping at the edges, and he had to double-side tape it to the phone. His bag has a broken strap so he used a handkerchief to tie a knot and reconnect it to the bag instead of asking for a new bag.
He's very awkward. People think he's cold and serious, but really, its just that he freezes up when people talk to him and doesn't know what to say, so he ends up saying nothing at all.
As a baby, he adored the crunching leaves of fall, as he was born around early November, and he associates it with his birthday season. When he was a baby, Alfred would take him out in the fall, and Alexei would squeal in delight every time his stroller wheels crunched the leaves. He also loves the snow, and often crawled out the backdoor when he was a baby just to bury himself in it. A maximum of an hour would pass before his frazzled parents find him.
He is extremely susceptible to the heat and easily gets heatstrokes. It was especially bad when he was a baby, as his parents couldn't take him out of the house during the summer without him burning up and needing to be in front of an aircon immediately or he'd faint from the heat. The first time it happened, Alfred never left the house until he was old enough to withstand heat longer. Alfred coddled him so much as a baby that daycare was a literal nightmare for both of them.
Viktor:
The polar opposite of his brother in every way. From a young age, he already had the self-assured confidence of a baddie
From Ivan: hair color, eye color, skin color, arrogance, cunning, manipulative cleverness, dubious morals, a hint of sadism, nonchalant
From Alfred: facial features (eye shape, nose shape, basically his entire face), build, extroversion, social butterfly, sympathetic, outgoing, rebellious
He's like, the cool one. He's not obnoxiously loud, but he certainly talks more than his brother and is more suave. He's not emotional like Alexei, who is easily provoked. He is also less up-tight and more go-with-the flow, never stressing about anything because to him, everything works out eventually.
A papa's boy through and through. He clung to Ivan like a barnacle when he was a baby.
He could be independent, but selectively chooses not to be. He could handle things on his own, but why do that when there are other people to do it for you? He calls Ivan and Alexei for everything at the drop of a hat. He's lazy and prefers to work smarter, not harder. He's too clever to live such a simple life, but he doesn't want to give himself more work.
He has a sadistic side where he enjoys watching people struggle. This means making Alexei's life harder for the fun of watching him stress out. But don't worry, most of the time he helps Alexei with anything he needs him for. Whether this means talking to the cashier when Alexei is too shy, helping him cover up a mistake, helping him socialize, or trying to bridge the gap between Alexei and Ivan.
Very clever. Uses it for the wrong reasons. He uses these abilities to get his parents to spoil him. Ivan knows what Viktor is doing but still pays for him anyway. Alfred is the one Viktor can't fool.
As a baby, Viktor loves the spring. He loves the flowers and the rain of this season. As a baby, Viktor was fond of wandering off in parks only to return with flowers for his parents.
More independent than Alexei when he was a baby. He thrived in daycare and made it his own personal kingdom. He was holding up his own bottle at three months old, when Alexei refused to drink anything but mother's milk until after he was one years old.
He's very fun and caring despite his flaws, considered as the "cool" older brother by Aurel (the baby of the family).
Overall, I'd say both twins are a perfect mix of their parents, it's hard to say which one they take after the most.
In your fanfiction ātorn between love and hateā what time period is it? I know itās steampunk but I read about Alfred talking about the 18-19th centuries in some chapters and the clothing you draw them in your art never really speaks to me about a decade this could be set in other than vague late 1900s future fantasy.
i intentionally made it pretty vague so its more to the reader's interpretation. Steampunk in general is like, pretty advanced for its time so their clothes reflect that. And in my world, each kingdom is set in a different time, but theyre roughly around the samw time.
Like Diamonds (ruled by Kiku in my AU) would be in the Meiji period, which is 1800s. Hearts would be in the Rococo/Regency period, which is 1700s. Clubs is like Early Modern Germany, which ranges from 1500-1800, but I'd say its 1800s. Spades is the 1800s-1900s.
But of course, like any fictional world, they have magic that makes technology possible for them. They live medieval-esque lives but have an archaic type of technology more advanced than ours that varies from kingdom to kingdom.

Fantasy Guide to Employment: Household of a Castle
The castle does not run itself. The castle would remain a pile of stones without servants to keep it running. The guide below focuses on the private household of the lord himself, anybody who worked inside the main keep of the castle. I will be expanding outside the walls in a future post.
This person was the head of the household staff. They would have the task of running things on the Lord's estate. They are the managers, so it is up to them to keep the staff in line. The steward would keep the castle accounts and keep the lord informed of all of the goings on of the lands and tenants. They would have to be educated needing to do accounts and write letters. Though the castle's Lady would be expected to do all these things, the steward served as a backup and assistant in all the tasks even representing the lord and lady when they were unavailable.
The chamberlain is the servant employed to look after the Lord's bedchamber. He would look after the Lord's clothes as well and keep track of the other servants' liveries, the official uniforms of the guards, pages and squires. This was not always the case, some larger households had a separate office but most medium seized manors and castles lumped them together. The chamberlain's main task was ensuring the lord was kept happy. He would even be the last servant a lord would see at night before he went to bed at night. They would be educated.
A Marshal was in charge of the stables as well as the military presence in the castle. They would oversee the household's horses, carts, wagons, and containers. He oversaw blacksmiths, horse grooms and stableboys. He also oversaw the transporting of goods. The Marshal was sometimes in charge of disciplining servants. They would likely come from a middle class background as well as having military experience and education.
A page was a young noble boy about seven years old who would be sent to serve a Lord. He would be in charge of tidying up after the lord, carrying messages to other servants and occupants of the castle and serving him at meals. Unlike others on the list, the page would not be paid. His experience was his payment as he would learn the running of a castle and manners of a lord.
The lady's maid is be the female body attendant of the castle's noble women. She would be in charge of caring for the lady's chamber and her things. She would dress the lady and attend her wherever she would. (The lady's maid would basically do all the work a chamberlain would but you know the wage gap...)
A housemaid/maidservant works to clean the castle. She would be among the first to awaken every morning. Her first task would be sweeping the floors. The thing with mediaeval floors a that they were often covered with a thin layer of rushes, a kind of grass. Weekly if not daily, a maidservant would be expected to change out the rushes and scatter new ones. If it really needed it, she would scrub the stone floors which would be done with a soap called lye, made from ashes and lard. The maidservant would also be expected to go into the bedchambers when the occupants awoke. She would empty the chamberpots if need be. She would get rid of the ashes from the fire and ready the fire for later. She would make up the bed or strip it for the laundresses. She would wash anything that needed washing including furniture and ornaments.
The laundress was responsible for the cleaning of anything made of fabric in the household. The laundress would have to fetch their own water either from the castle well or from a nearby river. They would heat the water in large vats and add lye soap (the most popular of the cleaning agents). The constant exposure to soap and hot water was physically tough on the hands of the laundresses and their backs. When the detergents were added to the water, the laundress would dump them into the vat and stir that shit like soup. To dry it they would pin it out on lines or beat the water from it. The laundress might make money by selling secrets. Since they are handling unmentionables, they knew what happened behind closed bedchamber doors or what didn't.
The nursemaid was in charge of the castle's children. They would ensure the child was fed, washed and generally kept alive while the parents would either be away at court or busy with the lands. The nursemaid would be a common woman from the surrounding lands who would come in to care for a noble child in the stead of the mother who would be expected to get on with other jobs. The nursemaid would be an underlying of the noble governess, a sort of hands-off nanny.
The cook was one of the most important servants in the castle. They would have the task of overseeing the running of the kitchens and keeping supplies in order. They would likely be on call at all times. Henry VIII's cook was often woken in the night because his royal master wanted a midnight snack. The cook was a valued member of the household and would have been highly sought after if they were a very skilled cook. Cooks would have been paid a handsome wage.
The scullion was the lowest member of staff. They would be responsible for scrubbing and cleaning the servants quarters and the kitchens. They would scrub floors with lye, scour pots with sand, sweep put the fireplace and clean up after the other servants. They were the first to rise in a castle and tasked to light all the fires in the kitchens.
Within the mediaeval household, payment came from the hand of the steward. As the Lord's manager of accounts, he was in charge of paying staff.
The grander jobs in the castle such as the marshal, the chamberlain, nursemaid and lady's maid would pay better. They would have certain privileges including better bedchambers.
A nursemaid who was breastfeeding the Lord's children would be a valued member of staff. She would be fed better than the other servants.
The page would sleep in a chamber off the lord's bedchamber or sometimes at the foot of the bed. A page would wear the Lord's livery so he would be dressed on the Lord's coin.
The chamberlain would have rooms close to the lord and lady, just in case they were needed by the master in any kind of emergency.
The cook would sleep near the kitchens so they were close enough just in case they are needed in the night.
The other household servants would all sleep in chambers together. The women would sleep in one and the men would sleep in another. Nightly dalliances were frowned upon massively.
Most servants came from the surrounding lands of the castle. When the lord and his family were away at court or somewhere else, there would be a drop in employment. Everything would be cut down ex. Instead of three laundry maids, only one might stay on after the lord goes. The steward, the marshal, the chamberlain, the page, the cook, the nursemaid and the lady's maid were all important staff so their job would be permanent.
this is their cardverse fits btw
