Sometimes all you need to do is sit down and talk
i dont get offended at white people jokes even though im white because:
i can recognize white people as a whole have systemically oppressed POC in america, which is where i live
most people when they make white people jokes only mean the shitty white people and i am not a shitty white person
im not a pissbaby
gen z culture is saying things like "all my jokes are cries for help", but it was actually a joke, and you neither can nor want to talk about your feelings in an unfunny way no i don't want to talk to the guidance counselor

No, not really. Maybe you’ve been writing all day. Maybe you’ve been doing something else all day. Maybe you’ve been doing something else AND writing. Maybe you’re exhausted or you’re not well or you’re dealing with some heavy stuff in your life. Or maybe everything’s fine but you just feel like taking a break for a bit because it’s physically and emotionally healthy to do that.
Yeah. Read that again. It’s healthy to take breaks. You don’t have to run yourself into the ground or be in constant go-mode to prove that you’re a writer. And guess what? You can also have entire days off. Seriously. WHOLE DAYS. You don’t owe anyone 24/7 hustle and it’s actually not good for you to expect that from yourself. You wouldn’t expect it from anyone else. It’s unrealistic and unkind.
So if you actually want to be writing right now but you aren’t, then go and write. Start small and see where it takes you. If you have a deadline and you’re hardcore procrastinating, try and work through some of the brainstuff that’s making you procrastinate, then try and write. But remember that one of the reasons you might be procrastinating, deadline or not, is that you’re physically and/or mentally wiped out and you genuinely need to rest.
If you don’t feel like you can write unless you’re super inspired and motivated, but you would very much like to have written more than you have today, try to muster up a little bit of extra self-discipline and give writing a shot. You might surprise yourself. Seriously, it’s pretty amazing what can happen when you make the decision to show up and do a thing even when you’re not 100% heart and soul there for it every second that you’re doing it.
But also, if you need a rest, if you want a rest, have a rest. If scrolling through Tumblr is good happy downtime for you, scroll away. If making posts about writing brings you joy and facilitates connection, make those posts and share them with your community. Pay no mind to anyone who tells you that anything less than perfection is failure. Even if it’s yourself telling you that. Especially if it’s yourself.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
A friend of mine posted this and tagged my old instagram account, asking me to share it. I figured sharing it here where I actually have a following, would be far better.
Please remember that just because the government is giving into pressure and greed, that doesn’t mean that any of this is getting any better, in a lot of ways it’s getting worse. And even if you yourself aren’t being as heavily affected anymore, there are people and communities that are.
Stay safe Darling ones, and help others remain safe too.
