featuring an ugly liner drawing of a kitten

tried to use a liner instead of pencil today. it was fun for short ones but starting with 5 minutes i felt like im wasting time since i couldn't "fix" the lines that were already there and adding new ones would just look dirty, so i returned to pencil. i like the 10 minute drawing more than the 25 minute one but it was enjoyable sketching that guy, his body breaks into nice shapes and his poses entertaining to capture.

text and a silly doodle from yesterday below

i did line of action yesterday as well but didn't post.

i like the 10 minutes breakdancing guy (even although the shoulder is bad) and especially his pants; i mostly draw naked people bc it lets me see the anatomy better and yesterday while working on a small passion project it became obvious that i don't know what do pants look like lol. so this sketch was also my pants practice, in a way.

the longest sketch isn't much of upgrade from the 10 minute one, but that's ok i guess.

in a yt video there was an advice to do both practice and passion projects. i'd like to redraw one post i've seen here, which requires to practice faces, poses from imagination (or reference) and drawing specific characters. the first character i decided to draw is kazuhira miller from mgsv, and i was anxious bc i care about that character and would like to do him justice and draw him good. i opened a reference - the concept arts (full body and face) and the 3d model - and tried drawing the same things for now. i still have noticeable skill issue just drawing people (and faces especially), so even copying the exact same thing wasn't perfect, but i kinda like how the small doodle of his head (the one in the middle) came out and am posting ot below just as a small celebration. after this exercise i understood that i should as well practice drawing clothes and shoes (and mb guns if i will decide to be thorough). overall it went better than i expected.

I Think I Cooked With This One

it's past 12 AM here so i'm technically late for the daily practice, but i think i cooked with the 25 minute one (which actually took me ~40 minutes) to the point i am going to post it separately.

i tried drawing the 10 minute guy as ellipses and then filling in, it was fun but the result is meh. i am also trying to draw faces when there's enough time. won't post the sheets with all the short ones bc there's nothing interesting there, but i am satisfied with the 5 minute guy bc i drew him fast and had some time for shading and details, and with the 1 minute lady lying on her back doodle.

i guess drawing this guy the other day paid off bc this is the best i have managed to make to date. didn't actually take me 25 minutes, i was doing it for ~20 extra minutes bc i liked how it was going so far and wanted to finish. might return to it later and fix it a bit more.

i am satisfied with the 5 minute guy and not satisfied with the 5 minute lady at all, as well as the 10 minute lady except for hair which is my most decent attempt at conveying long hair structure so far.

today really was one of the days of all times... did 30 minutes instead of usual 60, not saying anything about these

i hate drawing that guy. i got 25 minutes for him today and accidentally reset the timer, so i had even more time but still didn't manage to draw him well and started shading after the timer ran out. his photos are always beautiful, it's frustrating to be unable to convey it in the sketch. and this is just some random person, idk how frustrated i will be if i try to draw a character or person i care about, lol - should do it anyway some day tho.

i wanted to do a 1.5 hour class before work, but due to some distractions and resetting the timer i had no time for the last sketch. not really satisfied and wanted to rage quit, took pauses during the last one even. i thought my little public practice diary was too negative due to me bitching so much despite having fun and was going to complain less, but not today it seems :')

idk when i will next have time to do 2 exercises in the same day, but when i do i want to draw some faces, big and small.

frustrating as it was, i am still definitely glad i keep up exercising daily. will see how long i can last

morning line of action. focused on shadows today: looked at the whole photo and thoughts which parts are the darkest, the lightest, a bit dark etc, picked a part (all the darkest areas, for example), drew a light line to mark the edges of that area and filled it in with respective value. i should think of a better way that allows more than 3 values and smoother transitions between shadow and light, but for now i like how it came out compared to yesterday. focused on faces too; it only goes for longer sketches but i resisted the temptation to leave the face blank or draw a -_- like thingy; i disliked what i was seeing while drawing them but now i think it's not horrible. i should do faces practice later to improve.

noticed that for some reason it takes me longer to draw feminine looking models than masculine looking ones. 5 minutes was enough to draw and shade the curvy guy, draw his face in a simplified way and his genitals (something i do rarely), and for the next 5 minute sketch of a lady i didn't even get to her head before time ran out. 10 minute lady's boobies are unshaded bc i ran out of time too. i wonder why is that; the answer might be bc i get lots of pictures of that particular guy for some reason and mb i learnt to draw him faster, but who knows. i wanted to shade the orb on the 25 minute one, but ran out of time exactly as soon as i was finished with the man. look at that orb tho, guess who is failing hard at drawabox ellipse tasks lol

it's the second time i do line of action in the morning instead of evening and both times i am satisfied more than on average; mb will make it a part of my morning routine (which is currently washing face, brushing teeth, mb shower and breakfast lol)

seeing other people in tumblr do same exercises daily makes me want to practice every day too

Today's Line Of Action. Got Some Clothed Pics For The Long Ones For Change - Glad That I Can Draw Clothes

today's line of action. got some clothed pics for the long ones for change - glad that i can draw clothes better than before.

i am reaching the point where i get frustrated at being not good enough more than i have fun, but i think i will get through it since i have company and drawabox exercises that aren't portrait drawing.

more line of action. is it possible to regress in a day? tfw 1 minute doodle looks better than 5 minute doodles.

i am not glad with shading at all, but i somewhat like the longest two sketches. for the 35 minute lady, i drew her pose inaccurately and decided to keep it that way, and had to imagine what her stomach would look like in my pose since it's behind her legs in the original photo. half of the faces are ridiculous but it's progress for me, especially on 25 and 35 minute ones. probably will focus on shading, hair and faces next time.

my line of action buddy won't join today due to having 13 hour shift at work, so i will do it twice for myself and for him, lol

i like how the dancer came out but don't like the rest. i used to draw the lines and simple shadows in 10 minutes and here i didn't even finish the lines in 25 minutes; not a single line in the longer sketches is confident and uninterrupted lol. anyway, i am glad that i challenged myself to draw a bigger thing and try to convey the pose as accurately as i can. will post more in the evening if i do it and like it.

i also finally started drawabox course and found out i can't draw ellipses lol. it is highly enjoyable though bc there are easily measurable criteria to evaluate myself as opposed to evaluating entire sketch.

satisfied with today's line of action practice. 1st one is 25 minutes, next one is 10 minutes but i paused the timer for a bit, next two are 5 minutes but i paused too and others are 1 minute. i am glad i finally can draw a decent (for me) sketch in 1 minute. not great amazing but i like it and wanted to post practice stuff anyway bc seeing other people do it inspires me to practice on my own and unironically brings me joy.

worth my father walking in on me drawing naked men lol

thankful to tumblr artists for the inspiration to try to draw, i like shapes and seeing shapes in human figures so much, thank you every person posting their sketches, but especially ultraeyepiss (plz post moar often than once in a month i beg of you) and zeeckz hehe

Dearest Kisu, the characters you draw are always full of like and dynamic! Do you have any tips to draw more dynamic characters/poses ? I love your art so much, you're such an inspiration to me

1. The action line:

It’s a line that you use when you create the posing that will help you translate a strenght/ an intention and  give “a direction” to the body.

2. Perspective

It can help making a posing more dynamic if you vary angles, perspective and directions

image

3. Don’t be shy, exaggerate!

That’s how you really can translate mouvements through drawings!

4. Try to avoid “mirrorl” stuff.

It works very well when you want to do artistic stuff (like tarot card aesthetics) but not so much when you want it to look lively.

(Making hair and clothes flow help a lot too hahaha)

5. Try to do “one stroke” line so it doesn’t “break” the mouvement
