I think that at first glance, 20 years is a long time, yeah, but if you really think about it -

20 years is an entire lifetime. In 20 years, parents see their kids, babbling and waddling, grow into adults who pay their own taxes. 20 years ago, the One Piece manga was at Skypiea. 20 years ago, it was 2003 - I wasn't even born then, so just imagining spending that long looking for someone you don't even know is alive - what does that do to a person wink wink

Oh my god, I just realized it's been over two months since Ch. 1. Please, university is kicking my ASS 😭 Without further ado -

The gear 5 tag on ylts 👀👀👀. I'm sooo excited to see your take on it! Right now my theory is that Luffy is like a half formed sun god that unwittingly disappeared, maybe bc he fulfilled joyboy's promise? Maybe he returned through sheer will alone but always feels the call to return to the sky 😭. Either way, the strawhats are going to be so crazy protective of their baby captain no matter what!!

I LOVE YOUR WORKS!! This has been really on my mind after reading young like the sea: how would Ace react in Sabo's place? Like, I have a feeling that Sabo prob spent most if not all that time looking for Luffy. Do you think Ace would do the same or try to move on?

Hmm... urgh, this is hurting my brain, but I really like the question, so I'm going to try to translate my thoughts into coherent sentences. I'm thinking of two scenarios.

In a "Portgas D. Ace lives" scenario, Ace and Sabo would at least have each other - and while they would never stop looking for their little brother, they would act as each other's pillar. If one of them strayed too far, the other could yank them back. This would be parallel to how their lives were back on Dawn Island when it was only them two. The two of them before Luffy, and they would absolutely despise it. They spent so much time as 2/3 and so little as 3/3.

The scenario of Ace being in Sabo's position is a bit tricky. In Sabo's situation, he failed to be there for both of his brothers (and I can't wait to write about his part in YLTS). With Ace, although he did promise Sabo to look after Luffy in his place, Ace and Luffy both agreed that they have their own adventures. I can't say much more due to spoilers, but let's say Ace would have a milder reaction compared to Sabo. Luffy's King, and Ace has seen him tear through hell itself and make it out alive firsthand. Ace would look for him - that's a given, but his faith in his return would be unwavering. When you don't know what to do, if you're lost or unsure, bet on Luffy.

I spent like an hour thinking about how to respond to this, and I might have gone off track, but I hope I answered your question!

I'm crying, screaming, throwing up your fics are absolutely incredible!! I can't get enough of stories where Luffy dies first, but him just straight up disappearing with no clues or answers is a new level of pain (your "i hope they never find him" tag kills me 😭. I'm so happy he returns but I can't help imagining the strawhats spending their whole lives with that little bit of hope that Luffy will achieve the impossible and return to them again. Then as each one of them reaches the end of their long lives, about to close their eyes for the last time, they swear they can hear a bright laugh and feel warm rays of sunlight soothing their pain 😭😭😭

It’s the uncertainty of not knowing if it’s time to move on.

BECAUSE THEYRE WAITING FOR HIM!!! HE HAS TO COME HOME RIGHT?? it'll be 20 damn years til he gets reborn and when i actually think about it, it's such a long long time to wait for someone, and now I'm dying to know how the strawhats have gotten through 20 years. they're still waiting to welcome him home and now i want to jump off a cliff.

ANYWAY ITS JUST PAIN AND SUFFERING WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT OUHJSFGBJHSDKJH (but thank you so much for the fic it was amazing and i would do anything for it, i would marry your fic if i could)

THATS WHAT IM SAYING! 20 YEARS - 2 WORDS, 3 SYLLABLES, BUT FOREVER. WHY

I could just imagine how many happy memories they could have made if they were together for those 20 years. Instead, theyre separated, missing their sun, and losing hope. This is horrible - we were stolen from.
