Big Announcement???

I’m scraping the book :(

I’m just joking….mostly..

I’m keep the characters and the MC being an ex-villain, but other than that the entire book is getting a rewrite! I’ve got some new ideas that I want to try out and I wanna rework some of the dynamics between the characters!

But here’s the actual announcement:

I’m looking for a Co-Author!!!

That’s right! Y’a girl is in desperate need of help and is finally asking for it. So I shall explain what I’m meaning.

Co-Author duties:

Well, I’m in desperate need of someone that knows how to code. Most of the reason that the book is not really progressing is because of how bad at coding it is. I’d like someone with the ability to code. It doesn’t have to be much, just a basic understanding.

I need someone I can bounce off ideas and in turn bounce back some ideas or tweak them. I want someone who will tell me if they think one of my ideas is nonsensical or would work within the story!

Also, I need someone to help me with asks! I can get so overwhelmed with them that it is kind of hard to manage, so someone that can do little asks or has a good understanding of my characters (it’s okay if you don’t now bc you will once you spend time with me)

I unfortunately cannot offer money for this position. I’m a broke college student doing this as a passion project and I need someone that is okay with that. You can put in as much passion as you want at your own hours and if it is ever too much then you can take a break or quit.

If anyone is interested in this position, let me know via DM. I promise I’m not scary! My hours are from no consistency in the morning to 9pm. Without a doubt I will be passed out at that time, but in the morning my will to get up varies. All DMs will be met with a message. If you haven’t received one, then that means I’m asleep! 💘 HEART W/ ARROW - what traits do they look for in a relationship? do they believe in love at first sight?

So I kind of merged the two questions together:

Aurelian: from a young age, Aurelian was shaped by his parents troubled marriage, which left him feeling disillusioned and resentful towards love.

As the heir to the throne, he was fully dedicated to his duties and responsibilities, leaving little room for thoughts of love and romance.

In fact, he struggled to distinguish between his desire for control and his genuine feelings of love for the things and people he cared about. So that made Aurelian have a complex relationship with the concept of love, and struggles to recognize it when he encounters it.

Elara: despite prioritizing her studies and interests, Elara always remained hopeful that she will find the one.

Growing up with books and studying, she never found much time for romantic relationships, but deep down she yearns for a deep and meaningful connection with someone who shares her love of knowledge.

She dreams of finding someone who can keep up with her intellectually and who will challenge her to be her best self.

Whenever she meets someone who shows even the slightest interest in her passions, she eagerly seizes the opportunity to befriend them.

While she may not believe in love at first sight per se, she is open to the possibility of experiencing a powerful and immediate connection with someone special.

Kazuo: for Kazuo, love is not something that can be rushed or taken lightly. He prefers to take his time to really get to know someone and build a connection based on shared values, interests, and experiences. He is someone who approaches love with patience, care and a deep sense of respect for the other person.

In his eyes, finding love is not about physical attraction. It’s about finding someone who truly cares about him and shares his values and passions.

And Kazuo will go to great lengths to protect and support the people he loves, even if it means putting his own wellbeing at risk.

Aiden/Ava: since they were young, they have always been prone to “puppy love”— that instant crush on someone who helped them up after a fall or made them laugh. But while their feelings may come quickly, they don’t take love lightly.

They have a natural tendency to befriend people and have formed many close relationships throughout their life.

But even as they enjoy these connections, A still hold out hope that there is someone out there who will love and care for them in a way that no one else ever has.

SC:

“Love at first sight? No, it was a possession beyond mortal comprehension, a binding of our souls in a union of passion and desire.”

Chapter 1 Update is Here! ✦ DEMO

This update is a massive improvement for new readers rather than warranting an entirely new playthrough. If you have any saves right before the Ceremony, you can find the most content there! However, the changes and additions are all over the demo.

Minor rewording for Karen encounter.

MC can now openly grimace when mortals call for MC's attention in Chapter 1. Previously, the only real negative reaction to them is turning away, which is open for any interpretation as to why MC does so.

When mortals ask for MC's help, MC can snap at them to speak quickly.

Most choices suggested you are friendly with Nero, so added a couple of options that are neutral towards him, leaning towards dismissive.

Rewrote a line that says you waved to Nero goodbye. It simply says that he departs.

Added an option to be frustrated with the conversation about mortals, when the only other non-positive options about mortals were about being completely disinterested.

Added an option where the MC says they can take care of themselves or they don't need other people worrying about them so much.

When choosing to be touch averse, selective, or not touch averse, you can now choose to be selective and not want to touch Rafaele, which initially was not an option.

If you are the Universal Eye, you tell Salvatore about the Universe being in pain and they dismiss it, you may be able to refuse conversation with them. They might keep talking to you, but you won't respond to them.

Can decide your relationship to your parents. Can also decide if you're open about your feelings towards them or not.

Variations in how your parents speak to you while preparing and during the Ceremony if they are aware of your bitterness towards them.

Can again openly express disdain for mortals or keep your feelings to yourself when answering Rafaele's question, when originally those options were absent

Can storm off from Ciocana if you do not express positive feelings about the dance, especially if you are touch-averse.

Added blue, pink, purple, and no hair options to Chapter 1, not available in the prologue.

Added red and gold eye colors to Chapter 1, not available in the prologue.

Added clothes option to Chapter 1 to wear to the Ceremony.

ROs will comment on your clothes if they particularly like it during the Ceremony (each have 3 out of 6 clothes they like.)

CROWN PRINCE LIROY ✧ CROWN PRINCESS SHYLA [m/f] Emperor and Empress Jung's firstborn. They are known throughout the kingdom as the epitome of sophistication and stoicism. You don't know much about the Crowned Heir except their duties to the country come first, and they hold them quite dear. A bit too dear.

PRINCESS DELILAH ✧ PRINCE DION [m/f] The royal Jung's second born. A soft but refined beauty. Most remember them for their carefree and childish behavior. "Iona's dancing muse," some may say. You've only seen them dance once when you first came to Gilhanna. Beautiful, hypnotic. You believe they are everything the people say they are.

PRINCE CLEMENTINE ✧ PRINCESS CLEMENT [m/f] The youngest of the Jung siblings. You haven't heard about them in all your seven years in Gilhanna. Nor are they mentioned among the people.

every morning after a full moon, you wake to witness a part of it replaced.

you're the captain of this cursed ship, you and your crew bound to it like day and night are to each other. despite the curse, you've known a life full of adventure and travels, exploring and seizing the waters. all this, you know.

until you don't.

this morning, no member of your crew can find the object that's been replaced.

what happens when for the first time since this curse has been set, not an object has been replaced, but a person–or a part of them– has?

you wake in a captain's cabin. are you the same captain?

are you not the same captain?

you know nothing.

What are the ROs love languages?

Aurelian:

1- Gifts: whether you're romancing Aurelian or just having a platonic relationship with him, he will gift you lots of presents that MC loves. For instance, if they were in the market and MC showed interest in something, the next day it might be outside your door. ;)

2- Words of affirmation: this boy will compliment MC every time they are alone, "Did I ever tell you that I love your eyes?" And then sneakily proceed to kiss MC's eyes. (sneaky snake)

3- Physical touch: the thing he loves most receiving from MC is hugs. It may sound simple, but in reality, it has a big impact on him for reasons that will be revealed in the next chapters. ;)

Elara:

1- Quality time: Elara loves and treasures every single moment she spends with MC, whether they are having a quick conversation or taking a walk together. She appreciates it when MC comes to her while she's studying something new that interests her, and MC just sits somewhere close, picking up a book or just relaxing.

2- Words of affirmation: this is sweet Elara we are talking about; she absolutely loves to give MC encouragement if they feel down or actively listen to them. (😩)

Kazuo:

1- Act of service: he is ferociously loyal and always tries to help MC in any way he can. He always looks out for MC when they go hunting or finishing a task. If MC was injured in a hunt, Kazuo would go out of his way to help them and stay beside them until they get better.

2- Quality time: Kazuo appreciates any moment with MC, especially when they're training together. He loves seeing MC in their fighting mood.

3- Physical touch: Kazuo won't be too pushy or clingy with his touch. He will just hold MC if they get stuck or injured. When he is in his lycan form, he loves to gently rub his cheek against MC's cheek when MC pats him behind his ears.

Aiden/Ava:

1- Physical touch: they absolutely adore any touch from MC, whether it's holding hands while walking or snuggling with MC. They will do anything for more kisses and cuddles from MC. (Their life motto is: kisses and cuddles any free time)

2- Words of affirmation: they will make you go crazy with how much they compliment and praise you for any simple thing you do. If someone accidentally bumps into MC and they help them up, A will praise MC until they die from embarrassment.

3- Gifts: when A comes back from a job they had (stealing, lol), you bet they will always come back with something extra just for MC. "A…where did you get that from?" You looked at them suspiciously.

"…" A averted their eyes from you, looking at the floor, the wall, the ceiling—anything but you. (🥺)

SC:

1- Physical touch: they will always, I mean always, find a way to tease and seduce you in any manner they can think of. Their brain is just full of two things (MC, bed). MC might need to scold them. 😔

2- Act of service: they always find a way to help MC, but is it for their satisfaction or something else? 👀

Hello again!

I've been giving it some thought, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to create a Ko-fi or a Patreon account where I can share some nsfw exclusive side stories and other things. 🤔

However, please don't feel obliged to join either of them, as asking me here is always welcome too.

My aim is to create something special and exclusive for each person who enjoys my wip, and I'm truly grateful for every single one of your supports, whether it's a like, reblog, or follow.

Aurelian: Ah, yes, we all know Aurelian is a spoiled child who craves attention and adoration like a cat craves tuna. If MC forgets to give him a kiss on the cheek, he'll likely pout, sulk, and sigh so loudly you'd think there was a hurricane outside. Meanwhile, MC may be confused by Aurelian's behavior ("what's up with him?" 🤨) but they will eventually realize what's going on and sneak around him to give him a quick peck on the cheek, even if he's crossing his arms and facing away from them.

Or, MC could choose to playfully tease Aurelian, which may lead to him becoming more upset and storming out of the room in a huff, while pouting. MC: snickering. >:)

Aurelian:

Elara: Elara will notice the absence of the kiss immediately. Her hand will go to her cheek, and she will look around in confusion. She will start thinking 'What happened? Are they okay?' and she will start pacing around the room.

And then, MC will burst into the room, with a sheepish expression on their face, hurrying over to her side. "I'm so sorry Elara." ( 😰)

She will smile warmly, taking MC's hand in hers. MC will sigh with relief, and will they lean in and give a soft kiss on her cheek, lingering for a moment longer than usual. Elara:

Kazuo: Kazuo and MC were in the middle of their training session, with sweat dripping down their forehead when they took a break. Kazuo being a sweet and understanding person, wouldn't mind if MC forget their daily kiss (such a sweet boi), however, as MC realized, they froze, feeling guilty for forgetting such an important part of their routine.

Noticing the hesitation on MC's face, Kazuo furrowed his brow and asked in concern. "Is something wrong?"

MC cleared their throat, embarrassed as they admitted, "Uh, I, forgot the kiss."

Kazuo chuckled and shook his head fondly, walking closer to MC and signaling to his cheek. MC leaned in and gave him a gentle kiss, feeling a surge of happiness when Kazuo's face lit up with a smile.

Kazuo:

Aiden/Ava: A would notice the absence of the kiss right away, I mean they get up every morning excited for it.

"MC" they whined (I can't with them 🥺), tugging on their sleeve. "Why didn't you give me my kiss?"

MC's heart melted at the sight of A's adorable pout. They would lean in and give A a soft kiss on the cheek, causing A's face to lit up with joy. But that wouldn't be enough for them. A would follow MC around like a lost puppy, demanding more kisses and snuggles, unwilling to let them out of their sight.

A demanding snuggles:

SC: SC eyes narrowed mischievously, and they looked around, a sly grin spreading across their face. "What's wrong?" their voice is laced with amusement. "Did you forget something, MC?"

MC froze, feeling a sense of dread was over them. They knew how sneaky SC could be, "No?..." they tried to sound oblivious.

SC was amused, they followed MC around, taunting them with snarky comments and snickering.

"Did you forget about me, MC?" their voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm hurt. You wound me deeply."

MC rolled their eyes, they leaned in and gave them a quick kiss on the cheek, feeling a twinge of guilt for forgetting.

SC's eyes sparkled with mischief, and they reached out to grab MC's hand. "Don't worry, MC," their voice low and seductive. "I'll let you make it up to me later."

SC:

Does the King only falls in love with MC after the imprisonment or could he have been in love with them before?

Idk I feel like he's the kind of guy that'd definitely lock up the person he likes. Something like "Well, at least no one can steal you from me now". The joke would be on him tho, the demon did steal MC away lol

Anyway, loved the demo. Really liked that the chains also sustained MC, really interesting. Can't wait to see what comes next!

and I've outlined some scenes where that might happen. You know anon you gave me an idea with the SC snagging MC. Now I want to write how will Aurelian react to that lol.

Regarding Aurelian romance path, you can choose whether you were past lovers or he develops feelings for MC later on.

For example, just earlier I was writing, but then my mind went “ooh let’s change the colors of the texts!” and I ended up fiddling with twine.

And then, as if it wasn’t enough, my brain went “ooh let’s commission art for the background!” and dragged me down tumblr rabbit hole in search of artists to commission.

Yes, my attention span is shorter than a goldfish’s memory. 😔

Hi everyone, you may know me from around the IF community, probably primarily from here, but you may also be familiar with some projects I've worked on as an editor (the two most prominent being @bodycountgame and @nyehilismwriting's Project Hadea) or other things I've done around the place. Regardless, it's my intention to set up a place here to provide proof-reading and other editing services in order to help people in the IF community who may struggle with doing it themselves for whatever reason (be that due to time, or difficulty, or anything else).

What's on Offer?

We all know that being an interactive fiction author is a HUGE undertaking - we're our own planners, publicists, programmers and also editors a large amount of the time - and sometimes it can be a lot to grapple with. I also know from personally interacting with a lot of authors that editing in particular can feel intimidating for people who don't do it often, and lots of people feel like they don't get it right or don't trust their own judgement with it. That's a normal feeling for anyone inexperienced in a certain skill to go through, but also it turns out that luckily, the internet exists!

For a fee, I can hopefully take some of the stress out of the process by doing copy, line or developmental editing for you, or a combination of the three in some way, shape or form. This doesn't give me any control over your work, obviously, and any suggestions that I make will be just that, suggestions - though like any editor worth their salt, I'll always do my best to explain what I'm suggesting and why, so that you can hopefully make an informed decision about what you want to do about it.

So, how does it work?

Well, it's pretty simple, really - you reach out and talk to me about what you want edited, I'll let you know how many (if any) jobs are in my queue currently, we'll confirm what the price will be, and then you decide if you want to go ahead with contracting my services. If we agree to work together, you'll sit back and relax after finishing the exhausting writing process, or, if you're really a glutton for punishment, start writing something new, and I'll do the editing. Then I'll return it to you, and send you an invoice. Easy!

I'm not going to hover over your shoulder demanding certain changes be made or be offended if you disagree with me - that's not a good editor's function, in my personal opinion. What you choose to do with my editing suggestions afterwards is entirely up to you!

FAQs

What's the difference between copy editing, line editing and developmental editing?

Most people editing for themselves do all three different types of these at once, but they are actually three separate skillsets. Copy editing is another term for what's sometimes called proof-reading; basically, it's checking for spelling and grammar mistakes (including homophones and so forth) but not for other purely textual elements like ineffective word usage or weak sentence structures. Anything beyond basic grammatical correctness is covered by what's called line editing, which looks at some common things people worry about like overused words, weak metaphors or other imagery, and sentences or segments of the text that can possibly be written in a way to more effectively convey the message they're trying to get across.

Developmental editing is a whole other ballgame - this is the part that most often makes authors nervous, the act of considering the text in terms of the effectiveness of each paragraph and story beat, analysing which parts of the narrative and various character arcs are working and which aren't, and so forth. This is a type of editing that is heavy on critique, and very subjective: it's akin to the kind of feedback you might get from beta readers in many senses.

You don't have to want all three types of editing in order to contract my services for, say, just one, but developmental editing on its own will be by negotiation, and likely be an hourly fee rather than a per word cost. You also can't have line editing without copy editing, as it would be impossible to make sure it's effectively-written without making sure it's correct. (You can have copy editing without line editing, however.)

Do you accept works from people whose first language is something other than English?

Yes, this is not a mitigating factor for me. I've worked on some pieces by French- and Brazilian Portuguese-speaking authors before. My editing suggestions come with explanations of why I'm making them, so it should be clear even for ESL authors what I'm suggesting and for what reason. I'm not a translator (unless you're talking about from Akkadian or Sindarin), but as long as you're capable of having a conversation in English, we should be fine.

How should I format my files for you to work on? And how will I get them to you/receive them back?

The two most preferable options are either in a Word Document, or a GoogleDoc document, as these formats both allow me to highlight parts of the work and comment on it directly so that you can see my suggestions. Any other format will make the whole process difficult for both of us as it will require cross-referencing between your work and my responses.

It doesn't have to be formatted in any fancy way, though - as long as it's in the document and readable, even just via basic copy/paste from wherever else you write, that's fine.

We can exchange the files via email or discord, whichever makes you feel more comfortable.

Do you accept jobs unrelated to interactive fiction?

Yes! I've edited novels and short stories before as well, and done work specifically providing developmental editing on outlines so that authors can feel they have a well-fleshed out plan before they begin writing. It's just that there's not many editors out there who are familiar with the IF scene, so that's my marketing focus, so to speak.

You write using British spellings... do you know how to edit for American spellings, too?

Yes, I know how to edit for AusE and AmE as well as BrE. Many authors also use a combination of multiple spelling systems, which I can work with as long as you let me know your style and parameters.

My game is written in the style of Shakespeare... can you handle that?

Individual style, both affected and inherent, is not really a roadblock for most editors. The job of a good editor is to consider each author's personal style and make sure to respect it, rather than try to overwrite it with their own voice, so if you're writing a Tolkienian or Arthurian or epic poetry piece, I'm capable of working with that as long as you let me know what you're aiming for beforehand.

If you have a style guide with particular specifications, feel free to submit it along with your documents, and I'll abide by its specifications. I've worked on projects ranging from high fantasy to scifi to modern fiction in the past.

Can I break my writing up into multiple parts to give to you over time?

Sure! All of the interactive fiction work I've done thus far has been chapter-by-chapter, and you can break it down smaller if you like. However, I can't necessarily bring forward developmental editing concerns from one job into another at peak reliability, particularly if a long period of time has passed between the different jobs.

Pricing

How much the editing will cost is based on the length of what you would like me to edit, split up into three length categories: under 10k words, 10k-100k words, and over 100k words. Prices are in AUD, Australian dollars. Per-word rates round up (ie., at a rate of 1c per 5 words, 6 words would incur the cost for 10 words).

Under 10,000 words

Copy editing: 1c per word.

Line editing: a flat $15 fee on top of the price of copy editing.

Developmental editing: a flat $20 fee on top of any other costs, or an hourly fee by negotiation if without the other two services.

10,000 to 100,000 words

Copy editing: 1c per word for the first 10,000 words, followed by 1c per each 3 words for the remainder.

Line editing: a flat $30 fee on top of the price of copy editing.

Developmental editing: a flat $80 fee on top of any other costs, or an hourly fee by negotiation if without the other two services.

Over 100,000 words

Copy editing: 1c per word for the first 10,000 words, followed by 1c per each 3 words for the remainder, plus a flat $20 fee for each 100k words after the first (ie., 150,000 words will incur a $20 fee on top of the per-word price, while 250,000 words will incur $40).

Line editing: a flat $40 fee on top of the price of copy editing, rising incrementally per 100k words after the first (ie., 150,000 words will incur a $40 fee, while 250,000 words will incur $80).

Developmental editing: a flat $80 fee on top of any other costs, rising incrementally per 100k words after the first (ie., 150,000 words will incur an $80 fee, while 250,000 words will incur $160), or an hourly fee by negotiation if without the other two services.

Code-checking

If you're able to include your code with your writing (such as by viewing a proofing copy of a game via twine), and provide me with an outline of your variables and what you're using them for, I can by request check for possible errors (such as adding to a stat when it seems like it should be subtracting instead, or using a wrong or misspelled variable) for a flat fee of $80 per 100,000 words (in this case, the code is included in the wordcount, since I'll be checking it).

Outline Help

If you want me to look over an outline or plan and provide developmental feedback before you begin writing, this can be done for an hourly fee by negotiation.

Writing Update

Hello hello! Sorry for not being active today, but that's because I'm focusing on writing chapter 1 and also moving the prologue to twine.

IT IS UPDATE TIME! For those of you who missed the dirty draft in the discord, the original play link has now been updated with 35 thousand words and two chapters sizzling with exposition, and heated rivalry. I'm so excited!

Here's what's new:

Before we start, it took some honest critique for something to click for me, plot wise. I have been meandering with the plot, partly because I had no idea what I was even doing, and part because I really wanted to meander around in this new medium. But, the plot I have planned is very high octane and epic in scale so I don’t want to bore you to death before we get to the good stuff.

So, don’t hunt me for sport when I tell you that (for the time being) I have removed the entire section of RO 101’s. I was so stubborn with shoehorning them in for the better part of a year, leading to writer's block and utter despair since it just wouldn’t fit; it wasn’t how you were supposed to learn about the RO’s. I have put them aside for now and tweaked Lenas scene once more so that it flows better- I am hemming and hawing over Id’s 101 because that one actually makes sense to have there, plotwise. It might go back in where it was, but I am still thinking about it.

Ok, for real this time though:

The scenes where you scream and your RO busts down the door Kool-Aid man style are there now.

A meeting with Oma and a blast from your [origin] past!

A whole chapter of lies and deceit, but it could literally be anyone lying. Careful who to trust.

Is that… [REDACTED]?? Surely not.

Another chapter where you get to choose your weapons and the way the Surge manifests with your hunter.

On topic of the surge, the magic in Ouro, it is now a default for all players; you can choose from 4 different classes. The Battlefrenzied Zealot, The Beastmaster, The Etherweaver or The Vox Psion. I had a terrible time writing the codexes for these classes, so some are partial and others missing, but if you continue you will experience them in actual action-scenes instead, weaponized. Don't forget to save! For now, each class comes with its own weapon, but I will add more whenever extra time strikes, or when the draft is done.  I am going to remind you as I remind myself: This draft will get rougher around the edges, a little bit messy, as I am going to try to just draft the whole thing without even looking back. It will make my life so much easier when it comes to figuring out key scenes and motivations. While I wrote quite slowly as I treated OUROBOROS as a hobby, now I am working on it, which means skipping content I cannot think of on the spot just to keep the ball rolling. I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers. To be completely honest, I love most tropes. BUT enemies to lovers just hit differently. The angst. 😩
