i’ve been binge watching eah analysis videos and nostalgia hit me…. have some dappling 🤲🏻💗
predetermined and inescapable
sooo, I've been thinking about how the world of ever after is really messed up so instead of, I dunno, sitting here and enjoying my tea and a show that's about 12 year old, I'm trying to rewrite parts of it (at least parts of the worldbuilding)
Gather round and let us tell you a tale of the world of Ever After and our part in the paths of our beloved characters.
Long before EAH was established, two great magic wielders called the brother Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, saw a glimpse into our world aka the readers world (see book 3 Shannon hale ch. 24) the brothers thought we were gods so tried to make a connection to us. through trial and error they made the storybook of legends but it wasn't what they wanted. it told them past present and future and every reality in between. discouraged they gave up and made a school to help kids control their magic abilities. but it wouldn't stay that way.
while the school was being built Jacob got married and had kids. the older brother, Giles, was more quiet and reserved compared to his younger brother Milton. they grew up going to the school and apprenticing under their uncle and dad. they knew about the Book but were told that they couldn't see it till they were older, but Milton being the curious and energetic 16yo he was sneaked a peak aaaand instantly regretted it. it showed him very horrible reality with wars death and famine. there were good ones but the bad ones had a hold on him and he was determined to find a way to stop it.
"my great plan to stop bad things
get all the trust from dad and uncle so the give the school to me
find a spell to pull people towards a safe reality
wait till dad and uncle cant stop me
implement
live happily ever after"
PART 3
it went exactly according to plan except step 4. he found and edited a spell that was like a subtle mind control that got more extreme over time, but when he cast it, the spell wasn't strong enough. where the pull should have been like a heavy chain on a chihuahua it was more like a piece of yarn on a Doberman. Milton only knew one person who could cast the spell. Giles. he had been traveling around learning all sorts of magic. Milton sent him a message asking for help casting a protection spell and Giles, happy to hear from his brother who hadn't been responding to his letters, readily agreed. he got there and Milton and him cast the spell. Milton claimed that part of the spell they had to sign the book. unbeknownst to Giles, Milton didn't actually sign it. Giles was now tied to the book. Milton practically shoved him out the door so Giles left and ever after high started with its first year of students.
ps. the rest will be on my other blog specifically for EAH

I feel like Apple and Daring were rlly close when they were little. They were kinda forced to be around each other bcuz of their parents, but I think it turned into a genuine friendship. However as they got older and the pressure to literally be in love with each other increased, they drifted apart. Especially bcuz apple is a lesbian and I hc daring as aroace, so the immense pressure put on them to love someone who they literally could not love romantically rlly hindered their relationship and they felt awkward around each other, only hanging out for appearances rlly.
hey pals, i actually REALLY don't like the dragon games lineup
like... this is just so random. it doesn't fit. i don't like this. if ever after high didn't solely exist to market dolls, these are the students that i can see playing in the dragon games. but first, i wanna start with an explanation of why i'm removing who i'm removing from the lineup
the wonderlandians: i'm gonna be so fr, if scott morrison came to my hs and was like "yo guys i'm starting a basketball team" i am NOT joining that shit. and bro wasn't even incarcerated for poisoning the other country i have citizenship in OR idk stealing some other lady's job. he's just a prime minister that i don't really like. and i'm not a refugee. the wonderlandians on the other hand... yikes. they would NOT have played dragonball with the evil queen
the o'hair twins: now first of all, holly has expressed nothing but wanting to follow her destiny, which very much includes damselling and distressing. plus that hair is a fire hazard ;-; as for poppy, when i first watched dragon games i deadass thought that the twins ONLY got armour because they were just modelling what everyone else would get, and they wouldn't take part. especially because i think she'd be more concerned with maintaining the integrity of the armour and doing routine checks just making sure that a piece of equipment wouldn't become faulty and responsible for one of her friends or classmates getting injured
melody piper: what do you MEAN that this girl isn't emceeing the event?? she was born for that
who would actually play:
raven queen, for the exact reasons in the show
apple white, but only because the evil queen blackmails her
now, an argument could be made against darling charming, since she'd been working so hard before this point to maintain the whole "damsel in distress" thing she had going on since her parents were legacy book-thumping royals, however i think she would've been able to make the case to them "well daring is gonna marry apple one day so i think it's good for me to start getting along with snow white now since she's his future mother in law", plus everyone practically worships snow white
daring charming. bro has a DRAGON RIDING LICENSE. yet he wasn't on the field lmao
cerise hood. girlie is canonically a jock. she would live for dragon games. all she'd need to do is pin her hood to her hairline and she'd be fine
briar beauty because she's literally an adrenaline junkie. it's honestly more surprising that she WASN'T the first one to sign up. like make it make sense
i can see jillian beanstalk also joining since she's got that big ol sense of adventure
now, last spot is a bit of a tossup. i could probably see hopper croakington joining just to try to impress briar, or sparrow because it's "rock 'n roll". i'm leaning towards hopper slightly more since sparrow's whole thing is "i look out for the number one: me" or whatever and he's probably more afraid of dying than like. looking cool. especially because i actually don't think he does any hero classes or anything (just going off memory)
I like Apple White
Disclaimer: I do not justify the character's bad actions, I just want to express my opinion
I see her as a girl who grew up in a royal family. Surrounded by a society that considered it normal for some to have a good ending, and for others - a bad one. And this fate of "following fate" was terrible not only for rebels, but also for royals. Remember at least Ashlyn, Briar, Holly and Poppy. Everyone around suffered. But until Raven, everyone was silent.
Of course, you can say that Apple could have not immediately pressured Raven, objected to her mother.
I will say that she tried. Bright moments in Wonderland, during the dragon game. But no one is perfect, even those who seem so. And also, as my friend said, «if everyone was so smart and didn’t make mistakes, there would be no plot».
Apple asked for forgiveness many times, corrected mistakes and supported her friends. For this, I loved and will love her

Warnings: Mentions of abuse and unhealthy actions
Apple White
Lesbian (Canon)
Tea drinker (Briar is a coffee drinker and Ashlynn is a milkshake kind of girl), she used to put a lot of sugar in it but as she got older she liked to keep the sugar to a minimum.
I think winter is actually her favorite season but she says it’s summer
Her mother is obviously very manipulative and was probably very verbally abusive to Apple growing up.
She is an overachiever
She craves validation
I believe that Briar was her first crush but she convinced herself it was just strong platonic feelings
She had a major crush on Raven
But Darling is her soulmate
Darling teaches Apple to not rely so much on the validation of others and stand up for herself
Girl has a lot of rough days but would never tell anyone
Ravens probably heard Apple cry herself to sleep before but never said anything out of respect
She secretly hates her hair
She was taught to put others needs before her own
Raven Queen
Was compared to her mother so much as a kid she really began to resent her
But she always felt bad for it
Hates who she is
Wants so bad to change herself
She tries to be positive because she knows others probably feel the same way
Bisexual
Her dragon was a gift from her mother, her mother thought that would make Raven more ‘sharp’ but it didn’t
Her bi awakening was Cerise
I don’t think she ever had a crush on Maddie
I think she had a crush on Apple but she ignored it as best as she could
Loves dying her hair
Definetly tries all different hairstyles
Cares for her mom a lot
She feels like her mom tries to control her like a puppet on a string sometimes
She trusts Nevermore more than anyone else
Idk how often this connection has been made but raven and apple from ever after high are literally glinda and elphaba variants
WIP that hopefully I’ll finish soon 💐
princesses and knights have my heart, always

Ever After High brain rot meets King Arthur brain rot meets Romeo and Juliet (1996) meets 'i needed to practice backgrounds so there is a wall and a field'. Yeah, i do have finals to study for.
good evening to everyone but Mattel for cancelling ever after high before making these two canon
Me but with my Nagisa and Honoka dolls that finally came in the mail a few days ago
doing the lords work (making my apple and darling dolls make out)
The most effective thing about Ever After High is that every student has their own personal struggle that adds another element to just how life-ruining the destiny system is.
Apple is so terrified of what will happen to her if she doesn’t follow her destiny, that she is willing to compromise everyone else’s happiness to make sure it happens. This disregard for other people is only encouraged by the influential adults in her life.
Ashlynn has to be a servant to an abusive family and live knowing that the ultimate end to her supposedly happy ending is dying to set the stage for her daughters traumatic backstory, starting the whole cycle over again with no chance for any of them to escape.
Blondie feels so pressured to fit in to a deeply classist/monarchist society and ashamed of her parentage that she constantly presents a fake version of herself to everyone she knows, even her best friends.
Briar has to spend her whole life waiting for the moment her destiny comes and she falls asleep for a century. She knows that when she’s woken up, she will be forced to marry a boy dozens of years younger than her who she’s never met and live knowing that everyone she ever loved is dead and gone, the very things that she watched cause her mother’s emotional breakdown.
Cedar’s father was so afraid of watching her repeat his mistakes that he overcorrected, making it impossible for her to ever learn lessons for herself. She is also forced to share incredibly personal details with anyone who asks her questions, and can’t be trusted by her friends with any of their secrets, and it’s all because of her father’s past trauma.
Cerise has to hide who she truly is and never gets to see her family together and happy despite the fact that her parents have potentially the most healthy and mutually beneficial marriage in the whole franchise.
Daring was groomed from birth for a destiny that ends up not actually being his at all, leaving him aimless, feeling as though he has no purpose and has wasted his entire life.
Darling is forbidden by patriarchy and destiny to become a knight, the only thing she really wants, and at which she would be better than both of her brothers. She has to hide who she is and what she loves from everyone she knows
Dexter lived his whole life never knowing what his destiny would be but also knowing that whatever it was he’d have to commit to it forever the moment he discovered it at Legacy Day.
Duchess has spent her whole life knowing that the story she’s commited to living out ends in tragedy for her, and then had to watch the very people she’s been jealous of for years because of their seemingly happy endings give up those endings, while Duchess, loyal and rule following Duchess, is still stuck with her tragedy.
Faybelle tries so hard to commit to what she sees at her destiny that she’s never had a real friend in her life. Even still, no one recognizes her for all that effort and all she’s given up to be a suitable villain. Everyone is more afraid of Raven, who doesn’t even want to be evil.
Hunter has to constantly go against his moral compass to fulfill his destined role as a Huntsman and to try and make his father proud of him.
Kitty has been taught over and over again to value her Mother’s approval over all else, even at the expense of her friends. Her destiny is to create mischief, but how much more mischief can a dissolving world take before it’s too much?
Lizzie finds it almost impossible to express love or care for anyone else due to her mothers excessive conditioning that’s nearly akin to brainwashing. The saddest thing might be that her mother is actually, in her own way, trying her best to prepare Lizzie for a world that will only ever see her one way—as a villain. Now she lives in Ever After, princess to a kingdom that might not even exist for much longer, having given up everything for a destiny that may soon be impossible.
Maddie is a refugee forced from her home into a world she barely understands at a tender age. But she cannot express any angst or negative feelings about this circumstance, because to do so would go against her character. She lives in a world obsessed with destiny and stories while not even knowing if she’ll ever be able to return home and live out her story.
Raven is judged by almost everyone around her for her mothers crimes, many of which were required of her by destiny in the first place. She is nearly forced to commit to becoming a tyrannical megalomaniac (and almost falls into it herself, several times) who would be sentenced to lifelong punishment and torture for committing acts that weren’t even her idea in the first place, and the one punishing her would have been the very girl who begged so often for her to stop being so difficult and just follow her destiny.
