CW: Blood, Gunshot Wounds, Violence
TLDR: Danny is on the run from the GIW and ends up in Gotham heavily injured where he gets found by a gun wielding vigilante.
Word Count: 2313
Everything hurts.
But when did it not?
But this time it wasn’t just injury number 67942 causing these aches and pains, though it did contribute to it. The mental anguish of being ran out of my own home and turned away by those I loved. Because I was a ghost. That pain was worse than the wound in my side.
Now the GIW is chasing me across the country and my last scuffle with them left me hurt worse than ever. They’ve been pushing hard this time around, new toys, more numbers. It was ridiculous. Seeing my own family there made me hesitate when they jumped me too. I didn’t react, just stared in horror as my own mother aimed a gun at me and my own father cheered her on.
Despite it all, I am still convinced there is hope. That there was. But when she pulled that trigger, all hope was gone.
Now, that leads me to the present. Somehow I escaped and now was walking around with a gunshot wound in my side, a bum wrist and I think a head wound in an unknown city. Thank The Ancients for the luck I had with a portal to The Ghost Zone being nearby. I fell through it but had to immediately find another door to the mortal realm when I saw Vlad nearby, who has also been hunting me since this began.
So here I am, in a dark, dank city. The ectoplasm here is toxic as hell and tastes like multiple smokers' houses smashed together and death. Night was falling and it got cold here fast. That could just be my core or it could be that I am slowly bleeding out. That was unclear at the moment.
Either way, I walked the street looking for shelter, mostly ignored by others or simply stared at. Honestly, I did not mind, I didn’t want the attention. Even with the toxic ectoplasm here I could heal up quickly and bounce back to the Ghost Zone to expel the toxicity of it with the help of the feeder ghosts and be good as new. It was abundant here, not nearly as much as Amity Park but it was a close second. That little fact told me this city reeked of death which meant it was probably also dangerous.
Maybe once this whole my parents and the government trying to murder me passes, I could come back here and purge the toxic ectoplasm as Ghost King. Because that is the only thing left for me to do, become Ghost King since my human life seems to be over. I have no clue what there is left for me to do with everyone I loved and the U.S Government wanting me dead
Too bad I can’t fully exercise that power of King until I come of age next year. I could’ve resolved this and just hid in the Ghost Zone for the rest of my undead life. Vlad wouldn’t be able to touch me then. Curse my stupid half alive and half dead existence, no other ghost would’ve had to wait but the council likes to be a pain in my ass. Probably in spite of Clockwork in all honesty, I half joke to myself.
My mind reels as I think about home, my friends, even Vlad. All of them had turned overnight. Even Jazz, though she showed hesitancy at every turn. Their eyes seemed to have a tinge of red when I saw them attack me for the first time, reminding me of Freakshow and his mind control abilities. That was the only thing I could justify holding out hope. But I didn’t see that in my moms eyes this time when she shot me.
Even Vlad switched from the whole crazed rich fruit-loop routine of trying to make me his son to attempts on my life. By the Ancients, if he were there this last attack and not in the Ghost Zone, I would’ve been dead. I had no doubts about it. It was pure luck that he didn't notice me in the zone.
I grimace as I continue walking, holding my side, warm blood seeping through my white shirt and the bandages I put on it already. My vision and mind feel foggy as I turn a corner, instantly clearing for a moment when my ghost sense activates, sending a shiver down my spine, hair standing on the back of my neck.
Now?
Really?
I nearly groan both in pain and frustration at this change. I look around pissed off only to find a guy in a red helmet across the street. My entire being on edge as I see him. He didn’t look like a ghost but he gave the impression of having an association with ghosts. He had higher ectoplasm in his body than normal. Even more so than most Amity Park citizens. For a second I thought I saw the flicker of a core but just as quickly as I saw it, it goes away.
Could he possibly be possessed?
The gears turn in my head as everything screams at me that he is bad news regardless. The moment this masked man steps towards me, I muster all the energy I can and start to run, my decision being made. There was no way I could fight in this condition. Every inch of my body, my muscles scream at me for this. My side burns and my vision is blurry at best.
I risk a glance back to see him following and pick up speed. Grateful for my inhuman abilities still being of use despite my injured state. It’d be easy to go ghost or phase through a wall on a normal day but this was not normal, even for me. There are so many ways I could lose this guy but no, I keep running, oblivious to anything except the urge to escape this new, unknown threat.
Him following me all but confirms my suspicions that he is bad news. I mean I saw those guns on his side. They could be loaded with anti-ghost bullets. I’ve been shot once today, I do not plan on doing that again. Ever. He has to be a hired gun by the GIW is the only explanation to this.
At some point in the chase, I look back to see he is managing to keep up with me, which in hindsight made so much sense with my injuries. I turn right only to find this was the wrong choice. Because of course that would be my luck today. I screech to a halt, nearly crashing to meet the dead end head on, a brick wall separating me from escaping. I lean against the wall in frustration before turning to see if he was in the alley yet.
I could just phase- ”Demon brat what have I told you about stepping in my turf?” Damnit.
I am so tired. I am trapped. I am injured. This day just freaking sucks.
I glare at him with as much intensity I can muster. If only I could use my powers, scare him away. Now that he was closer it was clear he was a human who experienced death. Not a ghost. Not a halfa like him, just a human. But if he did that then the GIW would be sure to find me again in no time. And the stranger called me a demon brat. That has to be some sort of slur to ghosts, although I am not familiar with slurs for ghosts. Is that even a thing?
I shake the thought away and focus on him. I look him up and down, taking in his appearance and movements, ready to fight back.
Despite the mask covering his face, I could feel this stranger looking at him up and down despite it being dark. Maybe his mask had some sort of night vision built into it. He was assessing and judging him. And I was doing the same to him between the glares, my superhuman night vision letting me miss nothing in this dark space.
He looked like what I imagined a human vigilante would look like. Except 10 times scarier like he wouldn’t care if he helped civilians or not. Maybe this guy was just here for an adrenaline rush or some other bullshit reason a normal human would act like this. The red mask was intimidating, he was well built and tense, ready to pounce on him like I was on him. Except he wasn’t fighting death itself right now so he for sure would win without me using powers. Maybe he is a hired gun by the GIW with how he is sizing me up.
The vigilante takes a step towards me, “Woah, woah, you're bleeding.” he seems to hesitate but I glare back up to him like a feral animal. This had to be a trick right? The care and concern in his voice wasn’t real.
I backed up against the cool brick wall behind me, sinking into a low stance, ready to jump and fight back. I let the wall support me where it could and where it couldn't, I sucked it up with gritted teeth. I had faced worse before. If I died here I’d probably become a full ghost anyways so I could haunt his ass for the rest of his life, exercising the full power of Ghost King just to be petty for the inconvenience. Serves him right for the scary vigilante routine. Too bad for him, I am scarier and I would not fall for cheap tricks.
I try to make myself as intimidating as possible. Hell, the blood seeping from my head and how ready I was to fight probably made me look like a feral, wounded, animal right now. I mean that is what everyone else thought I was anyways, right? I bare my teeth at him, my canines most definitely unnaturally pointed.
“Seriously, kid? Two can play this game.” The man takes a step closer, I watch, calculating.
Then his eyes glowed green.
At least that had to be what happened under the mask. I felt the surge of ectoplasm being used when it happened and I snarl at him in response. This would be a harder fight than I thought. How did I miss the ectoplasm tainting him, enhancing him this way? The fact he could willingly do it meant he was trained and well versed in his abilities.
Well shit.
He seems taken aback at my response, not expecting me to not be frightened. Well tough luck buddy. “I can do that too.” I say with venom dripping off my tongue between gritted teeth, not willing to let this guy get the best of me.
I look up at what I presume are his eyes based on his mask and allow my own eyes to flare neon green, brighter than his. A show of power and dominance that some ghosts use to avoid a fight. Maybe I could avoid this fight entirely if he had the innate understanding many liminal beings had when experiencing this with or without knowing what it means. Either way it was clear he knew something.
“I have been hunted, shot, maimed, and tortured by much, much worse.” I threaten. “You do not scare me. And I sure as hell am not going to go down to a nobody like you.” My vision continues to blur and darken at the edges as the adrenaline from the chase starts to wear down, the rapid heart rate pumping my blood much faster than I need it to be to prevent blood loss as more blood seeps from my wounds. That little trick took more energy from me than I anticipated.
The unknown man looks at me, his body language indicating he was confused and concerned. I nearly wanted to laugh but I needed all the energy in case I had to fight. “Shit.. you’re not Demon Brat. Kid,” he starts, his body relaxing ever so slightly, “you need help, let me help you.”
The man takes another step forward, holstering a pistol. When did he draw that to begin with?
I flash my eyes again, a bit weaker this time as I feel my legs start to buckle under me. No. Not now. I can’t go down now. Panic welling up inside me as I growl at him and try to steady myself against the wall.
“Go away,” I muster, throat dry, “this isn’t your problem.” I manage to say as my last attempts to get him to screw off.
The man takes another step towards him, now in arms reach, “Look, I know a doctor who might be able to help you. She-” I stumble a bit and he reaches out ready to catch me, still keeping from touching me, “Shit- kid. She won’t turn you away. She can help. She doesn’t share the identity of her patients. She treats the Bats. You can trust her if not me”
My body shakes at his words. Or maybe I was shaking the entire time. God it was so cold now. Almost as cold as being dead for real. And man do I have experience with that. My entire body felt so heavy and aches everywhere. It was almost peaceful, in a way. Except I hated how dark my vision had gotten and blurred.
Something about how he speaks and acts, I decide in my haste, wanting to not die a second time to trust him. My body relaxes, no longer ready to fight him. Was it a bad idea? Probably but I did not want to die in an alley this time. My vision darkens and the last thing I remember is falling into his arms as my answer to him.
Please help me, stranger.

A/N: This was a fic I planned on writing but got burnt out after writing the first chapter so I figured I'd post it here, maybe it'll motivate me to continue it.
Whenever I see this cutie patootie star I immediately thought that she might be a scene core in this show so I took Liberty upon myself to make her
This! 👇
Behold, the hidden gem in the comments-
Headcanon: The ghost yeti’s have special little paw pads that muffle their footsteps and held them stand on snow. They’re like a lynx— their toes spread out when they step. This way, they don’t sink in the snow very much.
This is why Frostbite didn’t expect Danny to straight up vanish when he landed on the snow.
I love the hc that Danny can't help but trigger this innate, subconscious fight or flight response in everyone he meets. I love it even more when it's the reason why he still gets bullied by Dash.
Truth be told, Dash grew up years ago. His mean streak had been a short-lived phase that left a bad taste in his mouth. The sudden influx of hormones brought on by the onset of puberty had apparently muddled his brain and left him emotionally stunted for the duration of his freshman year. He'd shoved nerds into lockers and stolen their lunch money. He sorely wishes he hadn't been so excruciatingly cliche.
But he'd somehow managed to unstick his head from his ass pretty quick and he hasn't laid a finger on anyone since - well, except for Fenton.
Fenton had always been the exception. Small and slouched, with a messy fringe that fell into his eyes. Danny Fenton always made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end whenever he walked past.
His arm would brush too close or his shoulder would bump into his in a crowded hallway and Dash's arm would lash out before he could even comprehend the accidental touch. Fenton would be pinned against a locker with Dash's forearm against his neck in the blink of an eye.
The funny thing is though, no one stops him. The other kids don't call him out and the teachers are always coincidentally absent.
Dash isn't a bully - at least not anymore. He helped Lester get his locker door open after a ghost attack left the damn thing jammed shut. He stays late after practice so the girls on the cheer team don't have to walk home when the sun starts dipping low. He holds doors open for the people walking behind him and even offers a polite smile. The other day he stopped to help some little kid struggling to tie their shoelaces.
He's trying to be better. His mom cried about how proud she was on his birthday last month and principal Ishiyama made a passing comment on how nice it was not seeing him in her office every week. He enjoys being nice to people. It's gratifying, and some kids have started coming up to him when they need help.
Once upon a time, Dash had been a chubby self-conscious kid who'd hit the gym as soon as his dad had gotten sick of his begging. Puberty had hit him like a truck and he'd started shaving a year before anyone else. Since then he'd bulked up and was far larger than the average high schooler. He'd been honing his reflexes for years and never drops the ball. He's the shield that everyone hides behind during ghost fights. He's big and strong and has damn good aim - which is better than nothing when going up against a ghost.
But there's something wrong with Fenton.
Danny makes sweat gather beneath his collar and Dash has to grind his teeth any time he walks past.
At least he's not the only one.
Kwan's hands are always clenched into fists when they walk past Fenton's locker, even if he's not there. It feels wrong to have your back to Fenton in the changing rooms and Lancer's the only teacher still handing Danny a detention slip - Dash suspects it's cause none of the other staff can stand to be alone with him for that long.
No one steps in when someone lashes out at the Fenton kid. No one says a word or runs towards the teacher's lounge when Dale has Danny by the arm, eyes wide and gripped so tight his knuckles turn white.
The hallway goes silent and the world steps back as Dash's team flank his sides while the front of Danny's shirt is bunched in his fist. His heart thuds against his ribs and pounds in his ears as Danny opens his mouth to make a sarcastic quip. Danny's always been a sarcastic, mouthy little shit, but Dash can't find it in himself to laugh, not while his body forms a physical barrier between Fenton and everyone else - not when Dash has him by the throat but he's the one feeling cornered and exposed. He has to dig his toes into the soles of his sneakers to resist running.
It's not normal.
Dash plays along, keeping his cool as he goes through the familiar routine. He spits out a pathetic insult that misses its mark and thumps Danny against his locker before dropping him to the ground.
It feels rehearsed, like he's stuck in a cycle he can't seem to break. It's one big act that Dash walks away from with adrenaline churning the contents of his stomach and sweat gathering in the palms of his hands. The hallway parts as Dash walks away. He spares a glance at Kwan, whose dark eyes are trained on the floor in front of him, his fists clenching at his sides, shaking under the fluorescent lights. Dash hides his own hands in his pockets. The one he had bunched in Danny's shirt trembles, his nerves vibrating with the sensation of pins and needles. It feels like static under his skin. He tries wiping it off on the inside of his jacket.
The entire student body of Casper high follows behind him.
please tell me more about danny phantom lore
Delighted to see this in my asks~
I assume you know about the most common phandom lore, but to recap, I'll just describe a few and then go into other sources. Keep in mind that DP lore is super super flexible and up for interpretation (it's what makes it fun!), and that a lot of it comes from canon crumbs, or just complete fanon lol.
Ghost cores: The very essence of a ghost, described as an orb-like, glowing kind of "ghost organ." Has been interpreted as a soul, a place that stores ghost consciousness, or just a life source. Often tied to their obsession. (brief mention appeared In Urban Jungle w/this pic and we rolled with it lol)
Ghostly Obsession: The anchor that ties a ghost to the spirit plane I suppose. Or what holds them together. This is one of those with many interpretations. Mostly, I've seen it have great importance. It's something tied to their previous life (an interest, a passion, a yearning, etc.) that gives the ghost's existence a purpose, and is often tied with ghost health. For example, The Box Ghost's obsession is boxes lol. Some phans believe that not fulfilling an obsession can result in either the ghost destabilizing, great physical pain, a drop in the hierarchy of ghosts, etc. I've seen some say that blob ghosts are those without a proper obsession. And as mentioned before, I have seen a few who believe obsessions are mainly just an interest or theme without great importance. Personally, I'm on the side that does think they're very important, since it's a cool idea, and also one of the few most supported by canon. Plus it's pretty close to actual ghost lore, in how we believe ghosts are spirits stuck on earth because they have not satisfied a purpose.
Additional ideas I've seen are that a ghost can be consumed by it if they're not careful, or that they can even evolve into having a different one if the circumstances are dire enough. An example of that is with ASharksReadingGlasses' MCU crossover where Vlad's obsession goes from a family including Maddie and Danny to (SPOILER) one where his obsession is solely having Danny as his son. Having a family -> being a father.
Danny's Obsession: Then for Danny, I see a general consensus that his obsession is protection due to the nature of his death. Part of the reasoning stems from how unstable he was the first month without a purpose, but once he realized he wanted to protect Amity, it stabilized his core. There are some other ideas though, such as how @imekitty has a theory that it's actually more specific than just "protection," but rather protection of himself. Others think his love for space is a contender, bringing us to the next phandom tidbit-
Dual Obsession: Some think there's a chance, a very rare one, where ghosts can have two obsessions. I've mainly seen this used for Danny, where people want him to have both a protection obsession, and a space one. Brings up some interesting ideas such as which would win out, and the complications that come with balancing them.
Ghost Speak: Idea that ghosts have their own dead languages that come naturally with dying. Often described as either guttural, or like wind going through branches. Spooky sounding, inhuman. Even a feeling, or a form of telepathy. Can be an umbrella term for multiple ghost languages, since many believe there's some spoken only by certain ghosts, depending on location, how deep they are in the zone, and how old they are. There's contemporary ghost languages, ancient ones. Just a lot to unpack here.
The Ancients: I've seen some phans distinguish ghosts like the Observants, Clockwork, and Pandora from others. They're just on a whole other level, sometimes even equated to ancient gods. This one's the most open-ended that I've seen. Very much a worldbuilding element.
Ghost King Danny: Belief that Danny is actually now the new ghost king since he bested Pariah Dark in battle. Some believe he has to die all the way to get the throne, but mostly I've seen that the zone doesn't care if he's a halfa or not.
The Ghost Zone is Alive: I've seen some describe the ghost zone as a living entity, comprised of human ideas that were so strongly held, they gained sentience. Also, many fics refer to the Infinite Realms as being the proper name for the zone. (thanks Frostbite)
Ghost Hunger: Often jokingly referred to as ghost vore lol. Just the idea that ghosts need to ingest a certain amount of ectoplasm to survive. There are harmless interpretations of this, such as Danny just needing to drink ectoplasm, or recharge in the ghost zone for energy. I've seen others go the Tokyo Ghoul route, where Danny needs to eat other ghosts. (typically smaller ones, like blobs)
Lairs: A place a ghost has claimed as their domain, place to feel safe, etc. Often like a haunt. Canonically backed as well, with Pariah's Keep, Skulker's Island, etc. Some believe Danny has a lair in the zone, that Pariah's Keep is now Phantom's Keep (ghost king Danny idea), that Amity Park is his lair, just Fentonworks is, etc.
....
There's honestly a lot of lore to go through lol. The Phandom is wild creative, not even mentioning the AU's since those are a whole other thing. I've barely scratched some of the surface here, but if you want to read more, I'll provide some links to other posts on lore. (some mine and a few others!)
General blogs to check out: @floralflowerpower (fun facts, lore, thorough posts), @five-rivers (lot's of worldbuilding and ghost biology), @redrobin-detective (lot's of cool analysis), @monotype-on-phantom (super insightful analysis too), @imekitty (lot’s of lore shown through fics and explanation posts), @liminalhollow (analysissss) etc. There's many others but I can't think rn lol, so if anyone wants to add to the post, be my guest.

No one in Amity Park respects or trusts the GIW.
Civilians hate the GIW because they’re expensive, destructive and believe that they’re above the law and more qualified than anyone else.
For example, when it comes to payment and property damage.
Phantom and the Red Huntress work for free and don’t usually cause much property damage and what does get damaged can easily be covered by Amity Park exclusive “ghost insurance”.
The Fentons are loud and can be destructive sometimes, but they’re efficient, work at a very low price and are fully willing to pay for any damage not covered by ghost insurance. Plus they sell anti-ghost equipment at a low price and are more than willing to give tips on what to do if you’re the victim of an attack.
Ghost hunters from out of town are a mixed bag, because most aren’t equipped with actual equipment, instead bringing things made to communicate with the ghost and/or ward it off for some time (Spirit boxes to translate ghost speech, incenses and rituals to interact with them). Plus most out of town “ghost hunters” don’t even believe in ghosts and are usually just using the job as a way of conning money out of superstitious people. Prices can also range wildly. But those that take the job seriously can still be useful if an area is currently being haunted because they can still identify what exactly is haunting it and what you should do.
if your house contains a spirit the out of town ghost hunter could get it to identify itself or leave if it’s a weaker ghost, otherwise call the Fentons.
If it’s a ghost animal, treat it differently than a sentient ghost. Ghost animals are usually less dangerous than a sentient ghost but it’s still a wild animal. They can be dealt with easily and cheaply using incenses and Fenton gadgets that’ll make it leave the area or return to the zone. If it’s a large and/or dangerous creature, call the Fentons and tell them it’s a animalistic ghost.
If it’s a natural portal don’t bother calling the Fentons because natural portals cannot be closed or contained, don’t worry about it being that dangerous though, because natural portals are one way trips from the ghost zone to earth and can’t be seen or crossed from the human side unless you’re a full ghost. Just set up some incenses and charms so any ghosts that come though leave your house quickly or at least act respectfully while they’re here.
If it’s a collapsed portal, call the Fentons immediately and inform them of the situation. Natural portals that have collapsed may not be able to bring ghosts to the human realm, but for about a week after the full collapse, the area the portal occupied will produce high energy ectoplasm (H.E.E) that is extremely toxic and gives off an an astronomical amount of ectoplasmic radiation. Being in close proximity for too long can cause lasting health effects including ecto-acne. H.E.E such a powerful material that it’s used to power the Fenton portal. The Fentons are the most qualified people in Amity when it comes to dealing with the stuff. The GIW isn’t even allowed to do anything in this situation by both Amity Park and federal law. Just let the Fentons and possibly a hazardous material removal team deal with the stuff and stay with a friend or in a hotel for a day or two until they declare your house safe.
The GIW don’t care about public or private property and are loud, destructive and once again, believe that they are above the law and common decency. They also preform “mandatory sweeps” around the entire block of wherever they’re called in, raiding houses that they believe to have ghosts inside, ripping up lawns and damaging roads with their massive trucks and destroying public property either by accident or because a ghost was spotted nearby. They will also refuse to pay for any damages done and will secretly charge whoever called them with prices in the hundreds despite the fact that the propaganda posters advertising the GIW never mention a price.
Law enforcement in Amity hates the GIW because they get in the way of them trying to do their jobs, especially if someone has died. Multiple reports detail the GIW stepping in during cases involving sudden disappearances or murders and informing officers that the case is government business before removing all traces of said case’s existence. Multiple high ranking members of the GIW have been asked about this sort of thing and every single one of them claims that these cases “involved or resulted in the creation of an ecto-entity” making the case GIW business. It’s very obvious that the GIW uses these cases to locate and identify recently formed ghosts, but so far, no ghost related to a recent disappearance or murder has appeared and the GIWs meddling makes it impossible for actual law enforcement to figure out the causes of these crimes, meaning that murders and unexplained disappearances go unsolved.
The GIW also gives itself the authority to imprison and interrogate anyone that is believed to be involved with ghosts. In fact, for a while, the GIW made multiple attempts to arrest the Fentons and other ghost hunters because they fit this description. Some amendments were added to the anti-ecto law to exclude ghost hunters and ectobiologists (someone who studies ghosts for scientific purposes) to prevent this. This doesn’t mean they won’t try to push the Fentons and other ghost hunters around however.
The Fentons hate the GIW for of many, many reasons included but not limited to direct plagiarism of their scientific essays, multiple attempts to arrest them over tiny things that the GIW do not regulate and mass plagiarism of their gadgets and weapons.
The Fentons also hate how the GIW treats scientific research and the ghost zone itself.
The Fentons keep all of their research in the ops center and are more than happy to provide it if asked and actively want more people to be educated about ghosts. Their research is always kept up to date, and everything is meticulously covered. The Fentons want ectobiology to eventually be a subject that could be taught in a high school or college, mostly since when they were in college, their research was the first of its kind, often with nothing to go off of in terms of where to start or what to do and they ended up almost killing Vlad as a result.
Also, despite the “all ghosts are ectoplasmic copies of dead people and therefore are not and were never real people” stance, the Fentons are extremely against the idea of weaponizing ghosts and ectoplasm. You can’t control a ghost to do your bidding (freakshow is an exception, his staff was literally built by the ghost king and is therefore an outlier), You can’t create an ectoplasmic atom bomb (they tested if this was possible when they built the portal, you genuinely can’t) and any weapon that uses ectoplasm and works on human beings would be classified as either chemical warfare or biological warfare. They absolutely hate the idea of people using their research to wage wars.
The GIW on the other hand, keep all research a heavily kept secret and anything that is released or leaked is either outdated, details failed attempts at weaponization or is redacted to the point of absurdity.
The Fentons also disapprove of attempts to wage wars against, colonize, or damage large parts of the ghost zone. They understand that once the ghost enters the zone it has entered its natural habitat and home. Expeditions into the zone should not be used to capture or harm ghosts unless absolutely necessary. In the human realm they are entering our world with an actual motive (most ghosts need to be in the human realm to fulfill their obsessions), in the ghost zone you are invading their territory with no reason whatsoever, and due to the territorial nature of ghosts, showing too much hostility could trigger another Walker or even Pariah Dark level invasion. The Fenton’s may hate ghosts with every fibre of their being and want them destroyed, but they’re not idiots and they view what the GIW does as “swinging blindfolded at a hornet nest”.
The anti-ecto act details an ecto-entity as “An organism that relies on and/or creates ectoplasm and/or ectoplasmic radiation.” While ghosts, half-ghosts and plants native to the ghost zone fall under this jurisdiction, ghost portals, ectocontaminated objects, and devices powered by or made of ectoplasm don’t fit these requirements (mostly the “organism” part) and thus the GIW isn’t allowed to step in if it involves those things (For example, The GIW are not allowed to kick you out of your home and declare it a contaminated area if it contains a natural portal). The GIW likes to try and find loopholes around this.
Ectocontaminated creatures like Vlad and Danny in human form and anyone that’s been in an ectoplasm related accident do have ectoplasm as a permanent part of their bodies due to ectoplasm fusing with the cells in their bodies, but are actively excluded from the anti-ecto act because they’re still human beings, they’ve just got a tiny bit of ectoplasm in their bodies that cannot be removed. The GIW still treats ectocontaminated people like human beings because they’re forced to, but if a ghost is reported near where a person that’s been ectocontaminated lives, there’s a good chance they’ll bring that person into custody for “possible association with ecto-entities”. They do a similar thing to homeless people that are spotted near reported ghost locations.
Bringing people into custody for “possible association with ecto-entities” is basically the GIWs calling card, because “possible association with ecto-entities” is such a vague and difficult to disprove statement that just about anyone in all of Amity Park can fit that description and the GIW knows this. Anyone can and will be taken in from people that have witnessed a ghost fight to people that were briefly overshadowed to amateur ghost hunters and even to random people that have nothing to do with ghosts. Being taken in for “possible association with ecto-entities” is a popular meme around Amity Park, usually as a counterpart for sending someone to the gulag or Brazil.
The GIW may be partially government funded, but it has basically no governmental supervision and a good chunk of the GIW is self funded. They are extremely corrupt, breaking the anti-ecto laws amendments, several federal laws and most of the boundaries placed by the higher parts of the government whenever they deem appropriate. They aren’t even allowed to do half the things they do in Amity Park but get away with it because no one in Amity has the balls to stand up against them and even if they do, the government basically doesn’t care what some small government agency is doing in one tiny town in Illinois as long as they’re doing what they were sent there to do (research ghosts).
The GIW technically aren’t even supposed to be fighting ghosts. They were founded with the intention of RESEARCHING ghosts as nonviolently as possible. It’s the Ghost INVESTIGATION Ward, not the Ghost DESTRUCTION Ward. Both the federal government and the GIW themselves ignore this.
The extremely wealthy are usually able to bribe the GIW into leaving them or certain areas of Amity Park alone and/or make them turn a blind eye to ghostly activity. People that do this include (in descending order):
Vlad and all of his companies.
Axion Labs.
A small family in the extremely high class area of Amity known as the Mclains.
Most large companies that just want the GIW out of their way.
The Mansons on rare occasions.
Freakshow and circus gothica. Not anymore.
Some others.
For the first few months of the GIW being in Amity Park, they were completely unregulated with a massive budget and literally did whatever they wanted just by saying it was “government business”. They didn’t even need to play the “possible association with ecto-entities” card, because they’d just take anyone in for no reason other than “government business”.
That was, until they got sued.
To make a very long story short, the Fentons sued the GIW for plagiarizing their research, plagiarizing their weapons and selling them as their own and the multiple attempts the GIW made at arresting them over “direct association with ecto-entities” (ie: all of their research) “direct summoning of ecto-entities” (ie: the portal) and “harbouring ecto-entities” (ie: having an ectocontaminated person (ie: Danny) living with them). Most of the GIWs unregulated actions in Amity were brought up and the GIW were found guilty of scientific misconduct, plagiarism, abuse of power, dozens of accounts of unlawful arrest, embezzlement, discrimination of all kinds and many other crimes.
In the end the GIW was completely restructured, received several massive cuts to its budget and had multiple restrictions put on to try and regulate them, the anti-ecto law had multiple amendments added to make sure that it only effects ghosts and the GIW was banned from ever using Fenton research, gadgets, weaponry and basically everything with the word Fenton on it. This ban includes the creation of ghost portals.
Eventually the GIW was mostly unregulated again but even now, they mostly won’t mess with the Fentons or their research, because the Fentons are some of the only people with the courage needed to stand up to them and the evidence needed to put the GIW in hot water, and if the GIW end up with another incident like the “Fenton vs Ghost Investigation Ward lawsuit” they could all be in serious trouble.
The GIW has a list of “high value targets” that are either extremely dangerous, have evaded capture for a very long time or both. The list (in descending order of importance) includes:
Spectra (extremely dangerous and impossible to capture, ATTACK ON SIGHT)
Technus (messes with all of their equipment, has managed to delete thousands of documents of research and has released a large amount of ghosts from their facilities)
Phantom (difficult to capture, plus most of the GIW is still salty about not being able to collect that bounty)
Johnny 13 (a whole bunch of factors make him extremely difficult to capture)
Youngblood (impossible for anyone except children to see him and his guardian is extremely protective and dangerous)
Ember Mclain (can appear extremely human and is therefore extremely difficult to spot, along with having the ability to hypnotize agents into letting her go. Also constant requests and a couple million dollars from the living Mclains state that if captured, she is to be brought to them instead of to a GIW facility)
All ghosts have some level of respect for Phantom. Weaker ghosts view the Red Huntress as a genuine threat that should be taken seriously, while stronger ghosts view her as a ghost hunter thats far out of her league but still shouldn’t be underestimated. All ghosts view the Fentons as serious threats that are not to be messed with, but also won’t hesitate to fight them if it means saving another ghost that’s been captured. Every single ghost, with exceptions made for ghosts like Spectra, Aragon, The Fright Knight and the ancients, shit themselves at the mere mention of the GIW. If you get captured by them, it’s over. No hope of destabilizing and reforming in your lair because the GIW will use devices to keep you stable as they experiment on you. And they WILL experiment on you. Dissections, Vivisections (it counts as a vivisection if the ghost is conscious during the process), imprisonment in cells that Walker would consider crimes against humanity and just straight up, cold blooded torture of all kinds. The few things anyone, human or ghost, knows about what goes on behind the closed doors of a GIW facility mostly comes from ghosts that managed to destabilize themselves and reform in their lairs, and most of the ghosts that come back from a GIW facility come back with massive changes to their forms that they can’t remove and will often refuse to enter the human realm ever again, obsession be dammed.
Videos taken in Amity Park tend to become corrupted once they leave Amity Park. The entire thing seems normal while you’re in Amity but once you leave the video warps and corrupts and gains a sort of Analog Horror vibe with sudden cuts to things that were never recorded, videos looping on random parts, random corruption and strange whispering heard throughout the entire thing. It gets worse if a ghost was caught on video before leaving Amity Park because their ghostly aura corrupts the video further, adding random connections to the ghost’s origin, obsession and core. (Example: a video that briefly caught Ember on camera may suddenly cut to scenes of a burning building, sometimes showing a figure resembling a living Ember trying (and failing) to escape the blaze. The video will also contain distorted singing and/or a ghostly voice begging the viewer not to forget about her.) A large amount of stores in Amity Park sell things to counteract this.
You get a similar effect if you set a radio or old tv to static and go near a ghost. Their aura will warp the static and create “Ghost Noises”. Every ghost creates different noises and you can usually figure out what ghost is nearby based on what noises you hear in the static.
If Ember is nearby the you’ll hear a mix of distorted singing and a crackling fire. It may also play music sung by Ember on occasion.
Technus’s presence generates morse code and noises that, when made into a spectrogram, show detailed blueprints for electrical machines invented in the late 1800s. The blueprints are extremely detailed and are all labeled “PROPERTY OF NICOLAI TECHNUS”. The machines range from radios to induction motors to something that looks like an early prototype of a computer with internet capabilities. Most machines have already been invented by other people, but the blueprints seen here are all dated years before those machines were invented.
If you’re listening while Skulker is nearby you’ll hear the sounds of machines wiring and inconsistent beeping. This is the suit giving off ectoplasmic signals and ghost noises as it moves around. Skulker himself is too small and weak for their ghost noises to be heard.
Spectra’s ghost noises sound like whispering. It’s impossible to make out what exactly the whispers are saying, but some have claimed that the whispers addressed them by name, mentioned their families or said things regarding their personal lives with frightening accuracy.
On the rare occasions that Sydney Poindexter is wandering around you’ll hear muffled sobbing. Faint whispering, similar to the noises of Spectra can also be heard in the background.
Youngblood’s ghost noises are mostly silent, but occasionally the very faint sounds of tires screeching followed by a crash can be heard.
Most animalistic ghosts (think Ectopuses, Shadow, Cujo, etc) create faint growling noises, usually the same kind of noises that the creature itself makes.
Johnny and Kitty sound like a mix of engines, tires screeching and gunshots. Faint growling, similar to the sound Shadow makes can also be heard on rare occasions.
The Box Ghost generates the sounds of heavy machinery. If you listen carefully, you can hear someone that sounds like the box ghost arguing with an unknown person in the background.
Phantom creates a noise that sounds like either ice cracking or electricity with extremely slowed screaming noises that, when sped up, sound exactly like Danny’s ghostly wail.
Plasmius creates the sound of acid sizzling as it dissolves something, along with the sounds of fire and extremely slowed down screaming.
The Fright Knight’s ghost noises aren’t like the other ghosts. While other ghost noises are partially obscured by static, The Fright Knight’s ghost noises are clear and unobscured by any static or outside interference, sounding like loud, maniacal laughter with the sounds of buildings crumbling, people screaming, and ghost speak as a constant chant plays In the background, detailing the horrors of the lord of the dead; King Pariah and how to summon him, along with the consequences of making a deal with him.
While no one has ever heard the ghost noises of the King himself, most items associated with him have their own ghost noises that most agree are pretty close to what he would have sounded like. They all sound like chanting. The chanting recalls tales of the ghost king’s cruelty and power. Those who listen quickly become drawn into it, eventually becoming fanatic worshipers of the King.
Clockwork creates the sound of a clock ticking.
Pandora’s ghost noises sound like war chants.
Nocturne creates no noise, but instead creates a sudden pause in the static and a strong feeling of sleepiness.
Listen to me, hey, HEY what if, what if Danny had circulation issues? Like his hands, nose, and ears just stay cold all of the time and he has some problems that stem from that? I like to believe that while yeah the cold wouldn't bother him as a ghost it DOES bother him (at least somewhat) as a human. This could very well lead into Sam and tucker getting him gloves/mittens/earmuffs as gifts and holding his hands to keep them warm, giving him little kisses on the tips of his ears or his nose to give them just a tad bit of heat even if only for a moment. :(
okay, so, I don't know if thus has been said before but the reason why there are only yetis and dragons and such in the infinite realms is probably because their whole species died/got killed and that's the reason they only exist in the ghost zone-
I just thought of that and now I am slightly sad at the image of them having specific days that they mourn the erasure their species
Danny's lair isn't in the ghostzone. Neither in the overworld. His lair is the entirety of the mf galaxy. This mf legally owns the entire fucking galaxy.
