Nervous

pairing: fem!reader x katsuki bakugo; mutual pining

summary: nervous bakugo. nervous bakugo. nervous bakugo. nervous bakugo. nervous bakugo. nervous bakugo.

a/n: this is honestly just self indulgent.

Bakugo doesn't typically get nervous.

He felt confident in his academic ability. While Yaoyorozu took the spot as the top ranking student from the recent math test, he was still near the top with a near perfect score.

As for his quirk, he's come a long way being a third year and all. He continues to surpass his limits every day. He feels satisfied while looking at the gradual progression of his physical ability.

Regardless, there's no preparation when he sees you walk into homeroom.

He can feel his heart beating a bit faster than usual. Hearing his heart beating in his ears.

So he tries to slow down his breathing.

But that makes his head go dizzy.

So he throws that plan out the window.

He tries to breathe like normal. But then what's the normal pace for breathing? Or what was normal for him?

He can feel his palm get sweaty as he was gripping his pencil. He quickly wipes his hands on his uniform pants.

Small, almost silent, pricks can be heard from the combination of Bakugo's quirk and his pants.

All while he is trying to remember how to breathe normally.

He almost didn’t realize that you sat next time to him if it wasn't your perfume.

It was sweet.

You were sweet. Always considerate and kind towards your friends.

Friends.

Pretty sure you guys are somewhat friends, Bakugo likes to think.

You guys don’t talk much though, Bakugo tries to keep the conversation to a minimum, not because he doesn't like you.

Quite the opposite, actually. It's because he will turn into a stuttering, blushing mess if you look at him with those pretty eyes of yours.

Don't believe me? Let's take a look at last week incident, shall we?

It was a day at gym gamma for class 1-a, typical quirk-strengthening session for them. Everyone was occupied with their own physical abilities.

Kirishima, in particular, was tearing up a rock wall with his hardening quirk. The wall began to have multiple cracks, in fact, a large one was scaling to the top.

A piece of debris was about to fall.

Kirishima looked up a bit too late and saw that the slab of rock was leaning above Bakugo.

Bakugo, on the other hand, was absorbed in his training as he was perfecting his aim for his AP shot move. His arms felt heavy and his arms were getting tired of the weight of his gauntlets.

"Bakugo, watch out!" Kirishima calls out.

Bakugo quickly looks to his side, listening to Kirishima's warning, but he realizes what used to be a sunny spot, was overshadowed by something.

Bakugo looks up and sees the upcoming rubble.

He didn't have time to blink before the falling debris was pulverized.

Bakugo looked in awe yet confusion at how sudden all this was, and wondering how did he not get smushed?

"You're a real damsel in distress aren't you?"

Bakugo's eyes widened at the familiar feminine voice and the source as to why he wasn't just crushed right now.

He looks to his left side and sees you smirking.

Actually, he wished the boulder crushed him.

"Y-you're the real damsel in distress here!"

"Yeah? Will you be my knight and shining armor, then?" Y/n said while nearing Bakugo.

Katsuki's face felt like it was on fire. He developed enough sweat to blow up a small village.

"No, of course not! Save yourself!"

"Aaah so you don't want to be number one then, huh?"

"Huh!? I-I never said that! Don't put words in my mouth, extra!"

Y/n only chuckled a bit and as the moment passed, she looked at Bakugo with a look that he couldn't really describe, but she looked like she was on the cusp of asking something.

But she blew out some air and walked away, returning to her spot in the gym to resume her training.

And you being effortlessly stunning doesn’t really help.

“Pst, Bakugo. Did you study for today’s quiz?”

Bakugo nearly jumped out of his seat. Hearing you say his name was music to his ears. His heart beat feels like a rising crescendo on a drum set.

"Tch, of course."

"Damn, I kinda forgot" Y/n laughed a bit and sent an easy-going smile his way.

Bakugo feels like he's melting at that smile of yours. It's like you want him to embarrass himself.

Before Bakugo can reprimand you, Aizawa enters the classroom and begins class.

The bell rang, signaling it's time for lunch.

Class 1-a made their way to the cafeteria, splitting to different groups as such.

Bakugo was observant. Well, specifically towards Y/n. He felt like whenever he got the chance his eyes always gravitated towards her.

Y/n typically sat at Midoryia's table, so she was walking beside Uraraka towards the line to get food.

"Ooo! Y/n, c',mon, hurry! They are going to run out of curry buns!" Uraraka urges her friend to join her in running to make the line.

"Alright, alright. I'm coming!" She starts to pick up the pace.

However, there was a small puddle in Y/n's way, of course, she didn't notice this.

One wrong placement of her foot, and she was slipping backwards.

Uraraka looked back and realized, but it was too late as she reached out her hand, hoping to help.

Y/n squeezed her eyes shut at the impact, but it never came.

Someone did catch Y/n.

And it was a certain spiky haired kid with sandy blonde hair who had the biggest crush on her.

Y/n opened her eyes and looked into Bakugo's.

It took a couple seconds to realize how close they were.

They were so close, so close that if they were any closer, they would probably touch-

Oh, boy, did they turn into ripe tomatoes.

Bakugo immediately raised Y/n so quickly as if her skin was scalding hot water. Y/n letting out a small yelp in response.

Now, they stood facing each other, letting silence take over.

"Um-"

"Thanks for catching me!" Y/n spoke quickly and began to speed walk in the opposite direction, trying to catch up with Uraraka.

While Bakugo was still trying to process at how close in proximity they were just a few seconds ago.

It was quick, but Y/n turned back to see Bakugo still standing there.

She looked sorta conflicted, but she ended up quickly making her way back to Bakugo. Until she was right infront of him once again, but was a lot closer.

She quickly got on her tip toes and kissed his cheek and said, "I guess you really are my knight in shining armor." And once again, turned and left as fast as she arrived, leaving Bakugo speechless.

He felt like his world stopped for a good minute.

He touched his cheek where you kissed, trying to savor the feeling.

“You okay, y/n?” Ochako asked as her friend finally caught up to her.

“Yeah, just a bit flustered is all.” Y/n reassured with a small smile.

It was the end of the school day, class 1-a was retiring to their dorm rooms.

Y/n was walking with Mina while Bakugo and Kirishima were behind them.

"How well do you think you did on that quiz today? I guessed on some of them, but I feel like I got most of the concepts down." Mina questions.

"Let's just say I'd be surprised if I got anything right on that quiz." Y/n said with a scratching the back of her head in embarrassment.

Mina throws her head back and laughs, as Y/n looks down with a small smile playing her lips.

"Hey Y/n, you should get Bakugo to tutor you. He may not look it, but he really gets the material." Kirishima refers to his explosive bestie.

Kirishima knew the little crush Bakugo had, it was obvious to see. Nonetheless, Y/n felt that maybe her feelings weren't reciprocated.

Y/n looks behind at Kirishima, head nods, then turns her attention to Bakugo.

Bakugo took a self note to blast Kirishima into the sky later for putting him on the spot, especially in front Y/n.

"It's not that hard." Bakugo mumbled.

Y/n noticed Bakugo's face to be redder than usual, but she chalked it up to the cold weather at the moment.

Kirishima and Mina shared a knowing looked, which led to Mina exasperatedly say, "Okay, well we'll let you guys sort out of the details. Let's go Kirishima! Let's see what we are having for dinner." Mina and Kirishima walked off to the dorm building.

Y/n made a mental note to scold Mina about leaving her alone, especially with Bakugo.

There was some silence.

Bakugo felt like his mind was going a million miles per hour at the moment. Trying to find the right words to go about this.

"So, I hear you're a tutor" "We can tutor in my room"

They spoke at the same time.

Then the silence erupted again.

The mere thought of being alone in a room with Bakugo, even just studying, made Y/n turn into a tomato.

While Bakugo thought he jumped the gun at offering his room to study. She didn't even ask yet!

"That sounds great!" "N-no I mean."

Again, simultaneously.

Y/n let out a breathy laugh at how awkward this is going. If only the pair weren’t so awkward with each other.

"Oh, so you can't tutor me?" Y/n asked slowly to make sure she's clear.

"No! I mean, yes!"

Y/n titled her head to one side in confusion at his dual answers.

Bakugo thought it was the cutest thing, though.

"I mean, I can tutor you” Bakugo lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding, “if you want”.

Y/n let out a sigh of relief as well, trying to calm her racing heart.

"I'd like that." Y/n smiles at Bakugo and he feels his legs turn to jelly. He merely nods, trying to act cool.

Y/n turns to walk into the dorms. As soon as she is inside, Bakugo finally lets up on his stone-cold feature and jumps up in excitement at being successful in talking to Y/n.

He even raised his fist in the air for the achievement, doing his happy dance.

The moment of success was short lived as he turned back to the entrance of the dorms and spots Y/n through the window, staring at him with wide eyes.

Bakugo is beyond embarrassed.

However, y/n just offers a lighthearted smile and a wave.

He returns the favor and walks in.

As much as he thought that he was an absolute dork in front of her, he couldn’t help the smile that reached his face.

Bakugou Katsuki x Reader

Warnings: none, some flirting, little bit of cocky Katsuki

Summary: You remind Katsuki that not everyone falls in awe of a Pro Hero.

*Inspired by Disney's Hercules. We love Meg 👀❤*

Bakugou Katsuki X Reader

It's safe to say that Bakugou has grown since his days at U.A. Well, more or less.

Some days he gets lost in thought of saving people, hypnotized by the way men and women alike cheer and praise him. Chanting out his hero name, Ground Zero, and fawning over him when he's close by.

Children staring in awe at the tall, proud standing male. Some begging for a picture or autograph, which he does more from his Brand Team reminding him to grin and bear it for the polls and such.

Which he did with no problem, his smirks and boastful personality made him a magnet for egotistical labels but he ignored them, cause to him they were wrong.

He knows there's more to being a Hero than just photos and such, yet he can get swept away in the frenzie and lose the sight of that.

Until he met you, that is.

It was another day of simple patrols. Acknowledging a few fans and even stopping to take a picture with a young boy who tried to wear his hair spiked just like his "Favorite Hero". The gel in the child's hair making Bakugou smirk and mutter a "nice try brat,"

Yes it was a simple day.

He thought it'd be an easy shift ending, except for when a loud rumbling from down the street started to set off car alarms, citizens yelling out in alarm and fear.

A large villan stepped out from behind a building, the guys build like that of a giant Minatour.

It stood at atleast a good fifteen feet tall, large muscles covered in dark colored hair or fur, hard to tell from afar. Two large bull horns protruded from his cow shaped head, a long snout ending in a classic septum bull ring.

Of course in its hands, he held you.

Now most people would be screaming or pleading for their life but you simply sat in his hands, a bored look graced your features.

Bakugou instantly launched into an attack, explosions trying to blind the Minatour dude but he got smacked away like a fly. This caused him to fly into a fruit stand, teeth gritting as he stood back up, a strawberry stuck to his face before he pulled it off, a snarl present on his lips.

"Alright you sack of meat, now I'm pissed," Bakugou called out, him and the Minatour glaring at eachother when you spoke up,

"Uh hi, you maybe wanna leave Blast Boy?"

It was like a scene straight from a movie. Everyone, including the Villian, gaped at you like you were speaking in tongues.

"EH!? What the hell are you talking about?! You're the one currently suck in the Heifers grip but you're telling ME to leave?!"

Bakugou couldn't believe his ears, maybe he finally did blast his ear drums out.

"Yeah, no offense but do you see Damsel In Distress or Distressed Dude taped to my forehead? I'm perfectly fine getting my self out of here,"

Bakugou looked like a fish out of water with the way his mouth opened and closed, eyes white in anger and annoyance.

You leaned on the Bulls hand, an arm crossed under your chest as your left hands palm held your cheek up, flashing Ground Zero a sensual smile, "Have a nice day~"

Ears flushing from the sound of your voice and gleam in your eye. He went to retort, only you turned toward the Villian who was dumb enough to stop his rampage and watch the scene unfold.

"I'll give you three seconds to put me down before I make you,"

The Villian let out a booming laugh, a few citizens also murmuring in questioning tones.

You were a regular citizen like them, what exactly could you do if you had allowed yourself to get captured in the first place.

"Three...two....on-"

Before you could finish Bakugou had let a giant blast against the Minatours face making him yell in pain, his grip loosening for a second but that's all Bakugou needed to grab you and move out of the way.

This had angered the Minatour who shook his head free of ash and smoke. His red eyes locking on Bakugous who held you bridal style.

"You're welcome shitty person, next time don't try acting like a Pro and let the real Heros handle it,"

You scoffed, throwing yourself to your feet as you smoothed out your outfit, "Please, you're more of a Pro Jackass than a Pro Hero,"

The Minatour began his charge, large hoof feet sprinting at you and Bakugou.

"Get back!" Bakugou ordered, going to throw his hands out to produce his quirk but found you walking toward the Minatour instead.

He could only see your backside, but from the front your eyes turned a bright mix of red, pink and purple swirls.

"Excuse me~" your sultry voice filled the air causing many to freeze, almost as if you had taken control of them. The tone was like honey, thick but sweet. It made many develop a set of shivers, some letting their minds wander.

Your voice and loving eyes with you had caused the Minatour to cease his running, he ended up tripping on the road and skidded close you, his eyes now matching yours as your lips pulled into a seductive smile, your cupids bow lips plump and luscious.

"Thank you, are you ready to listen~?" The Minatour could only nod before you suddenly raised your leg up, dropping your heel on his head, knocking him out efficiently.

You turned back to Bakugou who just stared.

Wide, red eyes just staring. You couldn't tell if he was pissed or what, but the Villan was delt with and that's all that matters.

"Thanks for letting me play, it's been a real treat," you winked, walking off past Bakugou who turned and caught your arm, stopping you from moving.

The press and media, who appeared out of the shadows, took this opportunity and began to captures photos, videos, quotes, anything their greedy hands could get.

"Excuse us! What's your quirk?!"

"Are you a new Pro Hero!?"

"Do you have a Working Quirk License!?"

"How do you feel about getting up close and personal with Ground Zero himself!?"

You rolled your eyes at the last question, pulling your arm away from Bakugou as you shot him a sideways look, "Yeah cause a model who role plays as a Pro Hero for pictures and is a jerk about saving people, is someone I wanna get personal with,"

"Oi! You could be a little more grateful I got you out of his grip there Hippie Eyes!" Bakugou growled, his face showing aggravation but his mind was racing with questions about you.

'Who are you?'

'What is your quirk?'

'Are you a Pro?'

'You wanna go out sometime'

He shook that last thought from his head, eyes locking with yours as you just smirked,

"Yeah, next time I wanna be man handled for telling a guy no I'll call you,"

With that you turned and walked off, waving a hand without looking back, "See ya Blast Boy,"

Agghhhhh all I can think about is Bakugou having a newborn and wanting to let his partner get some rest cause they've been with baby almost solo all during the day for the past 2 weeks, so he brings Baby Bakugou to work with him....

IN A BABY BJORN.

And Bakugou isn't gonna care because he's stable in his mindset as a man cause we ain't got time for toxic masculinity. He knows who he is and that's a Father now and a caring partner.

Just shows up to the workplace, strapped in with a orange, green and black Bjorn because of course, 'Dynamite' . Gotta represent properly like a badass.

Newborn sleeping against his chest as he has his baby's diaper bag on his back, a backpack and not a sling shoulder bag because "I ain't trying to ware out my neck and shoulders dumbasses".

Everyone coming over to see the new addition and he tells them that if they wake up his baby he'll kill them and make sure they can't go out in the field for 2 months.

Some of the sidekicks getting a kick out of "Soft Daddy Dynamite" vs "I'll Kick Your Ass Dynamite"

Just

*screech*

Is it my baby fever acting up? I think so 🥺🙌🏻🥰🧡💚🖤❤🖤💚🧡

Some of the responses to my last post have made me realize that maybe Bakugo's trauma isn't as well understood as some of the other characters', and, because I have free time today, I figured I might as well break it down in chronological order and work from there (warning you now: this will be long).

To begin with, there's a lot of obvious things about the Sludge villain incident that would be traumatizing for basically anyone. And as much as Bakugo tried to shove off the after-effects, we know he was scared:

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

But there are a lot of Bakugo-specific reasons why the Sludge villain really fucked with his confidence and sense of self-worth. For one thing, while we see Midoriya getting attacked, he's rescued by All Might almost instantly. He barely has time to realize he's suffocating before he's free. Bakugo? Not so much. It's unclear how long, exactly, the Sludge villain holds him hostage, but it's at least a few minutes. Which doesn't sound very long until you remember that Bakugo was fourteen, couldn't breathe, and, because he isn't stupid, was completely aware that multiple pro heroes were basically standing around watching him be brutalized and doing absolutely nothing to help.

The only person who did help was Deku. The only person. The only person who gave enough of a shit about Bakugo to try and save him was the person he has the most complicated relationship with: his rival, his victim, his childhood friend, the person he feels both the safest and most exposed with. The person he measures himself against constantly, and internally finds himself lacking. So not only is all of this happening, but Deku—who just hours earlier Bakugo was mocking for being weak—is the one person strong enough to try and do something, and gets front row seats to Bakugo's own weakness.

Then All Might shows up and saves Bakugo from what is, at that point, the most humiliating, terrifying thing that has ever happened to him. But of course Bakugo isn't happy about it; he never wanted to be saved by All Might, and meeting his hero for the first time the way he did? What Bakugo wanted, desperately, was to prove himself to All Might, and instead he's just another dumb kid that got saved from a villain attack by the greatest pro hero who ever lived.

Not only that, but this was in public. It was televized. Bakugo was made so famous for it, people recognized him years later on the street based solely on his face. And while theoretically that's great exposure for him, imagine if the worst, most degrading moment of your entire life was broadcast on live, national television, and constantly brought up like some funny anecdote by people who don't even know you. He was fourteen years old being physically assaulted and strangled in front of the entire country and unable to do anything about it. Not only did that damage his pride, but it really fucked with him mentally. Look at what Midoriya even says about him:

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

That's not even to begin talking about how much pressure he puts himself under to be the best, no exceptions. He has a full-on panic attack when he loses in Deku vs. Kacchan 1 because he ties his self-worth so completely to winning he thinks of himself and worthless without it. Look how deeply it affects him:

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood
Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

That's not just bruised pride, that's Bakugo dealing with every single one of his insecurities being laid bare in public again. It's gonna just keep happening, too. And sure, like with this fight, sometimes he brings it on himself, but. Holy shit, this poor kid.

Then, of course, we have the kidnapping.

Despite their misapplication of their information, the LoV actually understands Bakugo pretty well. By that I mean, they figured out what affects Bakugo the most and capitalize on it to try and win him over to their side. They attack his image as a hero. Which seems kind of lame and generic, except it really hits home. Why?

Because that's his biggest insecurity, his deep, dark shame: Bakugo doesn't think of himself as heroic.

He's an excellent fighter and strategist, he's fearless, able to work well under pressure, adaptable, quick-thinking, and extremely powerful. All incredible traits for a hero. What he doesn't have is an instinct to save others. Deku does; he'll reach his hand out to anyone, without thought, no matter the cost to his safety/happiness. But Bakugo consistently struggles with this aspect of being a true hero. He's very aware of how important it is—every time he talks about Deku looking down on him, the thing he was laughing at Bakugo for? Yeah, this is it—and how very much he lacks it. And the LoV rubs his face in the fact that not only do a bunch of villains see him as being villainous, but the public he's supposed to be well on his way to protecting do, too. Yeah Aizawa defends him, but of course that whole experience negatively affects Bakugo. Especially because of what comes after.

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

Deku vs. Kacchan 2 is probably the closest Horikoshi comes to stabbing the audience through the brain with a knife labeled "Bakugo's trauma".

The whole fight is just Bakugo baring his soul in the most raw, heart-wrenching way possible. Look at what he asks Deku:

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

None of these lines should be ignored. This is Bakugo admitting that he is terrified that every bit of praise he's ever received is meaningless in the face of reality, which has proven that he is not worthy. All Might didn't think so, otherwise why wouldn't he have picked Bakugo to be his successor? Every ounce of skill, all the effort Bakugo has poured into his dream, it all means nothing. Why? Because Deku is inherently heroic, and Bakugo is not. Bakugo knows it, Midoriya knows it (why else would he be laughing in Bakugo's face if he wasn't intimately aware of his failures?), All Might knows it—hell, the whole world knows it. And because Bakugo is his own worst critic, he's gutted that someone like him, someone unworthy, destroyed the Symbol of Peace. His hero.

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood
Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

Does this not look like trauma? Does this not look like a kid poorly dealing with PTSD who's lashing out and trying to punish himself? And trying to purge his emotions the only way he knows how, through fighting? Who is desperately seeking some kind of compassion and connection in Deku, because he is losing his mind and can't keep going? He's a kid who's been given basically zero support, who's been expected to deal with not only being kidnapped and psychologically tortured, but also being the direct cause of Japan's sudden criminal uprising. That is so much pressure to put on a child. Any single bit of Bakugo's experience would be traumatizing by itself, but put together? It's like a personalized hell for him.

And then we have the Moment. The my body just moved on its own moment. Bakugo is so afraid for Deku leading up to this:

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

And afterward? It really affects him.

Some Of The Responses To My Last Post Have Made Me Realize That Maybe Bakugo's Trauma Isn't As Well Understood

He's scared for Deku. He's beating himself up for not supporting him better, for not getting over himself and taking Deku's hand. He thought his closest person was going to die in front of his eyes, and then that person ran away. Of course that traumatized Bakugo.

Now, the reason Bakugo's trauma often gets overlooked (both in canon and in the fandom space) is, in my opinion, because he doesn't express his trauma in a way that's easy to romanticize. It often comes out as anger and violence, loud and obnoxious and toxic. His trauma responses hurt other people, specifically Deku. And in a character that isn't going for poor little meow meow bloodthirsty vengeance-based criminal or abused child with terrible social skills but a heart of gold, it's hard for people to wrap their heads around the fact that Bakugo isn't really a bad kid so much as he's a kid who has had a lot of crap dumped on him and hasn't been given any tools to heal. He doesn't know how to express his feelings easily or clearly when he isn't in the middle of a fight, and he has very few coping skills to help him deal with his crippling self-loathing and inferiority complex. So when he reaches his mental limit, he—pun intended—explodes.

That isn't to say that Bakugo isn't responsible for his trauma responses, the same way every other character is. He absolutely deserves to be taken to task over them, and the narrative has done a good job of giving him one consequence after the other. But at the same time, he really is just a child who is doing his best in a fucked up situation. And while his actions definitely have hurt other people, the amount of mental torment Bakugo finds himself in on a regular basis deserves more sympathy than I think he sometimes gets.

I understand why characters like Shoto get more of the poor baby treatment, because he's the perfect victim: faultless, and his anger is almost 100% directed at the perpetrator, his father. Comparatively, Bakugo's trauma is messy and overflowing and directed at all the wrong people. But that's neither unrealistic nor even all that surprising, given what we know about him. And part of that is because his trauma isn't nearly as straight-forward, since it's so wrapped up in his own self-esteem issues that he blames himself, and then tries to refocus his hurt and anger on Deku to mitigate his own pain.

It's a big part of why I like Bakugo so much; he represents the unappealing side of trauma responses that are so common, but so often get overlooked because they're unappealing. He's a victim who doesn't act the way we want a victim to act, but rather the way they usually do, and for that I applaud Horikoshi on his realism.
