Planned Parenthood is not selling organs.

Fetuses don’t have organs that are worthwhile to anyone. Most organs are developing throughout all 40 weeks. Most abortions (89% in 2010) happen in the 1st trimester/12 weeks. (For amount comparison: A fetus is 3 inches long and 1oz in weight at the end of the first trimester.)

Fetuses do have fetal tissue, which can be used to make stem cells.

Stem cells are used to find cures and treatments for various diseases (like diabetes and Parkinson’s) and injuries (like crushed spinal cords.)

Fetal tissue has already been used to make many of our vaccines.

Planned Parenthood performs abortions and - if the patient permits it - donates the fetal tissue to organizations who wish to use it.

This includes people who need abortions for health reasons.

There are people who have lost their wanted pregnancies due to disease and conditions.

They may choose to donate fetal tissue to help others from suffering through the same heartache.

As noted above, fetal stem cells do a lot of good. Even if the person chooses a “therapeutic” abortion, they may donate the fetal tissue to help people with diseases, conditions, and injuries that may benefit from research.

Planned Parenthood is charging for storage, handling, and transportation of the specimen.

At $30 to $100, that’s a pretty minimal cost and reasonable.

Also, it’s perfectly legal.

Seriously, research that needs/uses fetal tissue may help hundreds, maybe thousands, of people.

Planned Parenthood isn’t nefarious.

Fetal tissue may be the key to treating and curing diseases, conditions, and injuries that affect thousands and their families.

Abortion is going to happen, anyway. Fetuses are going to die, anyway. Their tissue can help people.

🩺 On September 3, 2021, Tumblr and Planned Parenthood partnered up in response to a Texas law that came into effect September 1, S.B. 8., effectively banning abortion in the state and asking private citizens to act as bounty hunters who “enforce” the law.

We made the following calls to action along with the graphic below:

Statements about DACA (which was referenced in the original screenshot) generally are about immigration, yes.

I also found the tweet that contained the original screenshot of the email. It’s from a reporter at The Blaze, which is a right-wing organization and I believe the group that originally broke the story.

I can’t find the full email anywhere, nor proof that it actually exists that can’t eventually be traced back to that same tweet. I’m also not subscribed to the Planned Parenthood mailing list, so I can’t just check, but if anyone who follows me is subscribed and would like to verify this, the email would have been from around September 5.

(Also, I think it’s legitimate for an organization to briefly mention issues relating to groups that are not its primary focus as an expression of support when it’s relevant. This would be true even if it were a group that I am not particularly involved with. For instance, if Trump were to sign an executive order tomorrow barring Mormons from attending school, it would be reasonable for GLSEN to send out an email saying something like “We stand with our Mormon members” even though that has nothing to do with GLSEN’s mission (and Mormonism is not known for its acceptance of LGBT+ people.) Putting aside questions of immigration law, Planned Parenthood most likely has DACA beneficiaries on its mailing list; if it wants to reassure those people that it supports them, that is legitimate.)

“Young people have a right to sex education that gives them the information and skills they need to stay safe and healthy. Withholding critical health information from young people is a violation of their rights. Abstinence-only-until-marriage programs leave all young people unprepared and are particularly harmful to young people who are sexually active, who are LGBTQ, or have experienced sexual abuse.”

Three protests in Five days

Three protest in Five days and I’m exhausted.

With the hail coming down, hands and feet frozen, voice crackling, stomach empty I am so fully exhausted; but proud, because even though I feel dead, I also feel..

Last night it’s become clear to me that I must I must bring gloves to work to stand outside as the protest last Thursday, January 19th and last night, January 24th at Trump International Hotel Columbus Circle were last minute with the Women’s March in NYC on Saturday

There were definitely some eye-opening experiences in both good and bad ways; and I’m glad I experienced them both. First, I realized how bad my social anxiety is as it took me a while to feel comfortable chanting in the crowd.

Second, and more global, was that I don’t believe in always chanting the phrases or agreeing with them just because I’m in the group and while for now I can just not chant what I don’t believe in, I wonder how I will feel in the long run. Being at the protest, demonstration is a show of one more person who doesn’t want the Dakota Access Pipeline, or is upset that woman are still not equal. But does my being there for one action, even though a lot of these are connected and I agree with most, automatically support the others.

Ones I agree with:

“Native Life Matters”

“We Stand with Standing Rock” and “City by City, Block by Block”-->This was probably my favorite overall as it encompasses not only the protest and the Dakota Access Pipeline itself by that those at Standing Rock and across the country were together

“Water is Life”

“Show me what Democracy looks like, this is what Democracy looks like”

“Love Trumps Hate”

“Whose streets? Our streets!”

And Ones I didn’t agree with:

“Stop the pipeline, not the people”

“Dump Trump”--> I don’t like him either, but this just isn’t going to solve anything now. I understand what is meant behind this when they say “Not My President”. They want to make it clear that all of the hate he spews is not representative of all of this. But I feel this is more of a divider than anything else

My final and most critical eye opening experience was the fear. I’ve been trying, as a white person, to see how those of other races feel walking down the street. I cannot fully ever understand it, I wasn’t raised to because I wasn’t raised to have to but I feel I got some of it last night. Walking from Trump International Hotel across Central Park South the police were at first just casually around and helped direct a few people and then escorted us blocking traffic as we went towards Trump Tower. but then, two blocks north of our destination we were stopped. Directed onto the left we were lead into, what seemed to be a trap. The gates went all around and we were not allowed to move them. For the next thirty minutes I saw the police officers surrounding the front of the protest grow, and I don’t mean grew as we were all closer together and now so were they grow, I mean REALLY GROW.

At first nothing was going on, but when asked why we weren’t allowed to cross and why were trapped in we received no response (but this I understand as the officers around us surely weren’t the ones in charge and didn’t want to escalate any feelings). But as the Women’s March Protest on Saturday and the previous Trump International Hotel Protest on Thursday had been peaceful it didn’t make sense and obviously protesting two blocks north would not be effective as we are protesting the President’s actions that day of moving forward with the Dakota Access Pipeline and KeystoneXL. All I know is that the police number grew slowly at first and then in a surge. They had called for backup and where officers had stood comfortably apart, they were now forming a barricade; in a protest of an estimated two thousand, I felt overwhelmed by their presence. Overwhelmed and scared. Eventually the protest got around the barricade and moved all they way down to Time Square and I’ve yet to hear of any violence.

Overall I am happy I went to these protests as it reminded me, if for nothing else, to get involved and was another way of casting a ballot for myself and against harmful policies. Now onto the next

Tumblr I need your help

My best friend’s crappy boyfriend got her pregnant.

This wasn't consensual at all. He slipped the condom off during sex when she wasn't looking, and dumped her after he heard the news.

She needs an abortion, but her parents are strictly pro life and won't help her. She's about a few weeks in, and I don't want her to drop out of school because of the negative feedback she'll get. It's bad enough that she already gets anxiety attacks from stress.

Getting an abortion at Planned Parenthood costs about 300-900 dollars. It would mean the world to me if anyone could help by donating to her paypal. She's a bright student and a very talented programmer. Anything helps.

Here’s the link: paypal.me/Petra306
