𝓛𝓮𝓽 𝓶𝓮 𝓲𝓷𝓽𝓻𝓸𝓭𝓾𝓬𝓮 𝓶𝔂𝓼𝓮𝓵𝓯!

Hi!

My name online is Ray (she/they) , I'm from the UK.

I enjoy being in nature, playing the violin and a whole host of other things that i may well post about.

BOUNDARIES:

I have Derealization Disorder, so please refrain from mentioning "simulation theory" as this tends to worsen my symptoms.

I also have Tourette's syndrome so please do not purposefully trigger any of my tics (if you know what I have as tics) in my comment section!

Please just be generally respectful :)

DNI:

I don't have a full DNI yet, I may add to this.

Essentially don't be a d**k!

Headcannoning all of my favorite characters to have tourettes because I'm tired of not seeing representation in the shows and media I engage with.

Others with tourettes please send me your tic headcannons or good representation. I would love to see them 👀

Some of mine:

Travis Miles from Fallout 4, Eddie and Robin from Stranger Things, Theo and Fallon (they're both my characters but I adapted them from a seperate source), Deadpool, 2D from Gorillaz, Antisepticeye (Not the best, but he was one of the first characters I saw who did motor tics like me so I cling to it.), Doug Rattman from Portal, and both Tom and Edd from Eddsworld. :]

Tourettes are so silly until you're watching me spasm on the bed because the muscles in my right arm are screaming at me for laying down on it. Now I have to stretch. STRETCH! GET UP! STRETCH! APPLY PRESSURE! I DONT CARE IF THE ARM IS SORE BECAUSE WE'VE ALREADY APPLIED PRESSURE! MORE!

And I have a sore arm so I can't rest now.

Or like when I was a kid, and one of my tics was that, whenever I tried to lay down, my body would force itself to sit up and stretch out my torso as much as possible making it really hard to sleep.

Oh. Or when I can't stop rolling my stomach even to the point where I start cramping from it and can't do anything but lay in my mom's lap and whine because it fucking hurts.

Oh yeah! Or when I can't stop rolling my shoulders and they begin to ache but again I can't fuckin stop.

These are some of my more extreme tics, but it... Genuinely baffles me how many people treat Tourettes as a joke because all they see is someone making random noises or movements.

Even on that note, do you think that's okay? To laugh at someone who's already embarrassed about something they can't control? Do you think I like snapping my neck to the side as hard as possible? Or clearing my throat over and over again, or having my entire face start ticking for a minute? I have had multiple people (yes multiple!) tell me, to my face, that they want Tourettes. Why??? So you can say curse words randomly and not get in trouble for it? Did you know only about 10% of people with Tourettes have Coprolalia? Or maybe it's so you can just feel different? Okay. Would you tell someone in a wheelchair you wish you couldn't walk? Because that's pretty shitty.

Anyways. I didn't mean to turn this into a whole rant. My arm just hurts right now, and I'm tired of trying to find some comradery from my community only to be met with some random dude laughing at a girl having a tic attack. Be nice to those who are different from you.

Look, I don't believe in fate or any sort of higher power, but I do have one singular instance where I've been questioning it.

(TLDR: I got super lucky and randomly got a gp who had a lot of past experience with tourettes syndrome when I first developed symptoms)

When I was 13 I developed a very sudden and severe tic disorder (aka tourettes syndrome) so my mom took me to the doctor. I shared a gp with my mom cause that's just how it works where I live, but this particular day she was out sick, so I got a substitute. Said substitute did not actually work at the medical practice at this time, and was just filling in for a few days.

But it turns out that this doctor had previously worked in psychiatric care, specializing in youth with neurological condition, including tourettes. Aka, she had a lot of knowledge AND contacts.

(Side note, mental health care in norway is horrendous, especially if you're under 18, they are extremely understaffed and the waitlists are often over 6 months. And unfortunately these wait lists can be sped up if you just have someone on your side who calls them a lot and demands they see you sooner. This is very unfortunate for people who don't have a support system that can pull strings etc for them)

So the doctor put me on a pill that had shown some success in minimizing tics, so that I'd hopefully not give myself wiplash or any other lasting damage to my neck and spine, while waiting for a session with a specialist. (Said pill worked a lil bit but I still have lasting back issues from the intense tics 8 years later) She then immedeately referred me to a psychiatrist that specialized in tics and treating them.

Now, I was very lucky to have a SHORT waiting time, but it was still 3 months, and if you have hundreds of tics a day you can do some pretty intense damage to your body in 3 months, and the only reason I got in so fast was due to the doctor's contacts.

I had regular follow ups with said doctor, cause it turns out she was placed at that doctor's practice for an extended amount of time, and it just made sense that she would follow up on this particular case.

Once the treatment and stuff started to have an effect, the doctor had gotten a permanent possision at the practice and was sharing patients with another doctor to help lighten the load. So I could simply fill out a form and badabim badaboom she was my official gp (changing gps in norway is very dofficult, cause everyone's lists with the maximum amount of patients they can have is completely full, with a bunch waiting, and the only time a spot opens up is if someone dies, but I was really lucky as she was just getting started and basically had an empty list)

She is still my doctor to this day, and really great at what she does. And I'm extremely thankful for the fact that she was there that first day and that she had the possibility to follow up

As a neurodivergent fucker myself, it's always so very rewarding any time I can introduce one of my equally neurodivergent peers to the joys that is microsoft excel/google sheets.

Anyways, here's a link to a google sheets version of my supernatural masterdoc tracking every on-screen death. It's filled with some pretty creative solutions and formulas if I dare say so myself

(I work in excel, but it's a bit finnicky with sharing there, so just lmk if you want the proper document and I can mail you the file. Had to remove a couple of things that didn't translate to google, so the true document also has a list of every single killer in the show, and a list of episodes with no deaths)

I was questioning if I had ADHD bc both of my parents are diagnosed and I have symptoms, and then I realized every time I see a video relating to ADHD symptoms I relate to it and my brain just filed it as “oh yeah no shit?” Instead of thinking “oh.. that’s not normal but I do that.” Like i did for my Tourettes and my physical symptoms. I already have Tourettes and most likely Autism so I’m afraid to ask for a diagnosis bc people are REALLY gonna accuse me of faking.

So I want to write a character who has Tourettes Syndrome. Can I do that, without having tourettes myself?

I want to be as accurate as possible, and I also don't want to offend anyone who has Tourettes. Does anyone know anybody that has tourettes? Or does anyone have tourettes that can help me write my character in a way that isn't offensive or hurtful towards those who have the condition? Thanks so much!🥰
